This boy has come a long way in our care after years of neglect. While he is not a prime adoption candidate, we are hoping someone will let him live out the remainder of his life as he has never known kindness until he came here.
Ongoing medical issues: HW+, old hip dislocation, enlarged prostate, grade 4/6 heart murmur, BW normal, daily carprofen to keep him comfortable.
He has become a favorite to those who know him in the shelter. He is a sweet old man, loves treats, loves pets, walks ok on leash. He is not fond of going to the vet.
Please give him a chance.

UPDATE: 7:30 Jacks is safe for now. His foster says that he is a really loving, sweet dog, but he’s going to need a home with no cats. Please, keep sharing this post so we can find the perfect home for him!

UPDATE: 1:57 We have a temporary foster for Jacks. For now he is safe. We are still hopeful that we will find someone who will give him a forever home.

This is Jacks last call. At 2pm, the staff will have to walk him down the corridor. He will be happy, and his tail will be wagging. They will be giving him kisses. The staff's hearts will be breaking. They need to make space.
You see, the shelter has 106 dogs in-house now. The owner surrenders are pouring in, and Animal Control brings more animals in every day.
Jacks is in the shelter through no fault of his own. Jacks and Lucious have been seized from horrible situations 4 times since 2015 and have been adopted an equal number. They were adopted last 8/2024. They were last picked up as part of the 29-dog, 3-cat seizure in April.
The staff has found a home for Lucious, but Jacks has until 2pm TODAY (7/3) to find someone to step up for him.
Now, before people start screaming about the shelter having to euthanize for space, it is necessary to see the big picture.
The shelter is small. 106 dogs and 174 cats are waaaaay over their capacity. More dogs and cats are coming in every day. They don't have enough people to care for all of those, and the shelter doesn't have enough budget to hire more help. Volunteers are few and far between.
Jacks is good-natured and sweet, and he deserves a happily ever after. He is a 13-year-old senior dog with no health issues at this time. He will make a wonderful buddy for someone.
There is no time to waste. He has until 2pm. Don't send a message. Call the shelter NOW! 706 282-3275

Today is Friday. We have been 50 dogs over capacity, and now Animal Control will be bringing more dogs in today. That means that someone must walk through the kennels and make a "list" to make room for new arrivals. They are all good dogs. Some came in as puppies. People just pass them by. Some may be shy, but they are good dogs that may die just because we don't have the space or the budget to care for them any longer. We need to make space for new homeless pets to come into the shelter.
Last week we had a "list". We had to say goodbye to some of our long-term dogs, and it looks like we will have to do it again.
Why? There are too many dogs coming in and too few adoptions and rescues are full and not able to help. Transport rescues have slowed down to a trickle due to the demands of the residents there needing the help of the shelters and rescues.
Please, look at these faces. Please, help them.

Today is Tuesday. The first day of the week here at the shelter. We have been 50 dogs over capacity, and now Animal Control will be bringing more dogs in today. UPDATE - McDouble has been adopted!!
McDouble - One of the many McDonalds pups who was returned because the adopter was allergic to the fur. The problem being, the dog was kept so long he was no longer a rolly polly puppy, but a teenage dog - who acts like a teenage dog. He is gorgeous and has an effervescent personality. He can get overly excited when trying to pair him with other dogs. He likes other dogs but he can be a bit rude. He would be perfect for someone or a family who has an active outdoor life. Please give him chance to grow up!!!

Rex has limited time - please help!!!
How can you look at this face and not want to give him a big squeeze? This is Rex. He is soooo smart - he knows how to shake with each paw, lie down, wait at each door in a sit prior to moving through the door. He is highly food motivated, so he will be easy to train further. He loves toys as well and will bring them back to you. He would be perfect with an adopter who knows the breed and how to best motivate. He is not other dog friendly, which presents a huge problem in the overcrowded shelter environment. Please give him a chance to become the dog we know he can be!!!!

This is Sissy and Trouble. They are as cute as they can be. They need to find a forever home as they are at risk here in the shelter and their time may be short. They can be a bit loud and perhaps a bit rambunctious, but they are wonderful. They are smaller dogs. They can be adopted (or rescued) singly or as a pair, they do love each other. Trouble is HW+, and the remainder of his medication will be given to the adopter.

Please give them a chance at life.

UPDATE 9/3: Minnie has gone to rescue!
Minnie will be going to Outsiders Farm & Sanctuary. They will do a full medical workup on her, so they will need donations. Venmo: , or PayPal.me/outsidersga

This is Minnie. She came to the shelter as a stray a couple of weeks ago. We estimate her to be about 10 years old. She is very sweet. She has a heart murmur, and her lungs are struggling. We highly suspect chronic heart failure. The shelter is no place for her to live, she would be much more comfortable in a home for the remainder of her days.❤️

UPDATE - Noelle is still in the shelter looking for a home, but her puppies went to rescue.
Here are Noelle and her 7 pups. She looks to be a labradoodle, aged at about 1.5 years old and the pups are approximately 6 weeks old. She appears to be very good-natured. We are in a severe overcrowding situation at the shelter, not only adult dogs but puppies as well.

Momma Noelle has been adopted and the puppies are rescue pending.
