Vera originally came to us to be an emotional support dog for our 1st whippet Patton, but she became so much more than that. She wasn't just our dog. She was part of Winston-Salem Dog Care.

There is not a single dog walker who has worked for us that didn't do their very first test walk with Vera. If you've ever heard us talk about the perfect training dog, that was her. She was patient, forgiving, and somehow always knew exactly what people needed from her.

She was also about half dog and half cat. She had her own couch before we did. She always greeted me at the door and would happily come nuzzle your hand while you were trying to work, reminding you that whatever you were doing probably wasn't as important as loving on her for a minute.

The hardest part has been coming into my office and not having her sleeping while I work. I still catch myself looking for her throughout the day.

We cannot thank Oaks Animal Hospital enough for helping us help her transition peacefully. They were incredibly compassionate with both Vera and our family, and we are so grateful for the care they gave her.

The rain we've had lately has made our grass much higher than it should be. For once, I'm thankful for that. Vera spent so much of her time stretched out in the front yard soaking up the sun, and right now the tall grass hides that empty spot just enough that it doesn't take my breath away every time I look out the window.

People always say dogs are only with us for a chapter of our lives. What they don't tell you is how much they shape that chapter. Vera helped train our team, welcomed countless people through our doors, and loved us through some really difficult seasons.

She was one of a kind, and this place won't be the same without her.

Run free, sweet girl. Please tell Patton and Peanut hello and to keep you company until we meet again ❀️

There is a very large tree down that's taken down a big set of power lines Tobaccoville Rd before the four-way stop. Police and Duke power are on scene. Please travel with caution. They're in that sharp turn.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we are able to enjoy the freedoms and moments with the people β€” and pets β€” we love most.

From all of us at Winston-Salem Dog Care, thank you to the families who carry that sacrifice every day. We are grateful beyond words.

We hope everyone has a safe, peaceful Memorial Day spent with those who matter most. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

Today we honor sweet Truffles. 🀍
For nearly 10 years, we had the privilege of caring for this incredible girl and watching her become part of the Winston-Salem Dog Care family.

Truffles spent her final day exactly how every dog deserves β€” surrounded by the people who loved her most, endless affection, familiar faces, and more pup cups than we could count.

Our team shared so many years of memories with her, and saying goodbye has been incredibly hard. Dogs like Truffles leave paw prints not just on our floors, but on our hearts and in our routines. The quiet after losing them is never easy.

We are deeply thankful for every cuddle, tail wag, happy visit, and moment we got to spend with her over the years. It was truly an honor to love and care for her.
Run free, sweet girl.

Enjoy all the bubbles you can chase! We will miss you so much. 🌈🐾

Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mom and every woman carrying love in her heart today. πŸ’
To the moms raising babies, teenagers, and grown children.
To the women longing to become mothers.
To the mothers who have experienced loss no parent should ever have to carry.
To the women missing their own moms today.
To the bonus moms, stepmoms, foster moms, adoptive moms, grandmothers, and mother figures who show up with unconditional love every day.
To the pet moms who's pets are family, celebrate every little milestone, and have experienced the heartbreak of losing a beloved companion.
To the women navigating complicated relationships, grief, infertility, healing, distance, or empty nests.
To the caregivers who mother others simply through kindness, protection, and compassion.
Today may feel joyful, painful, beautiful, heavy β€” or all of those things at once. However this day feels for you, your story matters and your love matters.
Sending extra love today to anyone carrying grief beside gratitude. You are seen.
Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Winston-Salem Dog Care. 🐾

We LOVE seeing initiatives like this from Forsyth County Animal Shelter πŸ‘πŸΎ

Microchip scanners being added to county parks are another huge step forward in helping lost pets get home safely and quickly. If your dog ever slips a leash, escapes a fence, or gets spooked during a storm, a registered microchip can make all the difference in reconnecting families.

At Winston-Salem Dog Care, pet safety is always one of our top priorities. We strongly encourage every pet parent to:

βœ”οΈ Microchip their pets
βœ”οΈ Keep microchip contact information updated
βœ”οΈ Use properly fitted collars and harnesses
βœ”οΈ Consider GPS tracking collars for real-time location tracking

While microchips are an incredible recovery tool, GPS collars can provide immediate location updates if a pet goes missing β€” especially for active dogs, escape artists, hiking companions, or pets traveling frequently.

As professional pet sitters and dog walkers in Winston-Salem, we know firsthand how important identification and prevention tools are for keeping pets safe. We’re grateful to see our local community continuing to invest in animal welfare and lost pet recovery resources.

Huge shoutout to the team at Forsyth County Animal Shelter for continuing to advocate for pets and their families throughout our community.

Forsyth County NC Animal Shelter Director Jamie Bertman talks about pet microchip scanners in county parks in this segment from Forsyth County Connections: https://youtu.be/oeag3pDMDXg?si=qvrXOXNI9Y_HJ0ud
