🚨 FRIESIAN HORSE IN NEED OF SANCTUARY! 🐴
Meet Ivessa, a 16-year-old Friesian mare and one of 39 horses rescued from a breeding facility in Vermont. Our friends at The Dorset Equine Rescue Inc. found her standing in her own waste on a concrete floor, unable to put weight on her front left hoof. No bedding, no mats, and an equine body condition score of 3 out of 9. 💔
A neglected hoof abscess had grown into a severe bone infection requiring surgery to remove part of her coffin bone, followed by months of recovery. It was only in August that Ivessa was finally forfeited by court order.
The rescue is never the end, only the beginning of years of hard work. Dorset Equine Rescue has been diligently treating Ivessa in the year since her rescue. They've gotten her to a point where she can go to sanctuary. Now, it’s time for Ivessa to have a permanent home at West Place where she will continue to receive a lifetime of specialized care. ❤️🩹
We need YOUR HELP to give Ivessa the life she deserves and time is of the essence. The sooner we can bring her to West Place, the sooner we can begin addressing various medical issues. Your donation will help cover expenses for:
🚑 Transport from Vermont to Rhode Island (a 9-hour-plus drive or several thousands of dollars in transporter fees).
🩺 Allergy testing and treatment, including full examination by our veterinarian and a complete allergy panel. Ivessa has rubbed off her entire mane and requires a full body sheet most of the year. She’ll need a personalized and prescribed compounded serum to provide relief, which could be required for life.
⚕ Lifelong medical care and continued rehabilitation due to permanent damage to Ivessa's hoof.
🐴 A lifetime of unknowns due to Ivessa's tragic history and the nature of her medical issues. Her ongoing care will be anything but routine, and we need to be prepared.
Ivessa is the last of DER’s Friesians in need of a home. Standard equine care and nutrition for perfectly healthy horses is already expensive, and we expect to go above and beyond for Ivessa.
Bringing Ivessa to West Place also benefits Happy, our rescued racehorse who has been secretly hoping for a companion. Your donation today will positively impact both Ivessa and Happy! 🥰
