I’m officially back from vacation tomorrow, and I’ve been thinking about your animals all week. 😊 I’m coming back happier, more relaxed, and so ready to see all my wonderful clients again.

While I was away, I celebrated my three-year workiversary at the SPCA of Brevard, turned another year older, spent a lot of time reflecting on where I’ve been and where I’m going, and cuddled my dogs. Lots and lots of cuddling my dogs. ❤️

And now I have another milestone right around the corner! October 15 will mark five years of Wags to Whiskers, and I am so incredibly grateful to all of you who have made that possible.

I truly love that I get to surround myself with animals in pretty much every aspect of my life, both personally and professionally. I owe so much of that to your loyalty, your trust, and the fact that you continue to let me care for some of the most important members of your families. And the rest, obviously, is because I’m just really good at pet sitting. 🤣

Thank you for allowing me the break I needed to rest, refresh, and regroup. I’m so happy to get back to work tomorrow and see your babies again.

Vacation mode: OFF.
Pet sitter mode: VERY MUCH ON. 🐾❤️

WHEN A “COMPETITOR” BECOMES A FRIEND

We owe a HUGE thank you to our friend Kim at For the Love of Animals Daycare and Healing, who donated 10% of every pet-sitting fee she earned during the month of August to Duke Dog's Den! 💜

But this thank you goes well beyond one incredibly generous donation.

Kim is a fellow pet sitter and someone I’m grateful to be able to refer Wags to Whiskers clients to when I’m unavailable. Technically, I suppose that makes us “competitors.” Somewhere along the way, though, she became a friend, a colleague I trust, and one of The Den’s biggest cheerleaders.

She supports our Golden Girls again and again, whether she’s making a donation, sending goodies from their wishlists, sharing our posts, or simply helping more people learn about what we do.

There’s plenty of room in this community for good pet sitters to support one another, cheer each other on, and work together to make sure animals are cared for by people we trust. I’m incredibly grateful to have Kim in that circle.

Thank you, Kim, for supporting my little senior dog rescue, for trusting and supporting Wags to Whiskers, and most of all, for being such a good friend to me and to the girls. 🐾💜

WELCOME TO THE PACK, SLED! 🐾

Everyone, please welcome my newest client, Sled, to the Wags to Whiskers Pack!❤️

I don’t know how I keep getting so lucky with pretty perfect clients, but Sled is certainly no exception.

During our time together, we enjoyed a couple of beautiful sunrise walks around the lake, plenty of cuddle sessions, and maybe an episode or two of a Bravo show while we lounged around (Sled’s viewing preferences, not mine). 🤣

Safe to say, this handsome boy made my job pretty darn easy. Welcome to the Wags pack, Sled! 🐾❤️

🌈 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day 🌈

There is one part of pet sitting that I will never get used to.

I fall in love with my clients. I learn who meets me at the door, who needs a few minutes to warm up, who expects the treat before the walk, who has a favorite hiding spot, who wants dinner prepared just so, and who has absolutely no concept of personal space. 😂 I learn their routines, their quirks, their favorite things, and all the little pieces that make them them.

And eventually, for far too many of them, I have to say goodbye.
When one of my clients crosses the Rainbow Bridge, they aren't "just a client's pet" to me. Some of these animals have been part of my life for years. I've cared for them, worried about them, laughed at them, cleaned up after them, taken hundreds of pictures of them and loved them. Their loss hurts. Every single time.

That's why I keep a special Rainbow Bridge memorial on the Wags to Whiskers website. It's my little corner of the internet dedicated to remembering some very good dogs, wonderful cats, and other beloved friends who were here, were deeply loved, and mattered.
On Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, I'd love to open that memorial to even more of them.

If you are a current or former Wags to Whiskers client and I've had the privilege of knowing your pet, please send me a favorite photo if they have passed. Even if it's been years, I would be honored to add them. And honestly, they don't have to have been a Wags client at all. If you follow this page and have a beloved furry family member you'd like remembered there, send me their photo and name. I'll happily give them a place among the Wags family, too.
