Rogue had been struggling to get into the crate all week, so we changed the goal… 🧠
Instead of focusing on getting Rogue into the crate, we focused on building a calm, positive association with being there.
In this session, Rogue is calmly resting in her crate with the door open. I close the door, wait, reinforce her calm response, and then open it again.
And what happens?- She doesn’t rush out!
She simply watches, waits, and stays calm, because the crate isn’t something she needs to escape from. It’s a place where calm behavior continues to pay off.
This is why I focus on training the mind, not just managing the behavior.
When we understand why a dog is struggling, we can change the way we approach the training.
Train the mind. Understand the animal. 🐾
