๐ฅ With temperatures on the rise, itโs important to help your horses stay comfortable, hydrated, and healthy throughout the summer months. Heat stress can affect any horse, whether theyโre competing, trail riding, or out in the pasture.
Provide unlimited access to fresh, clean water
โช๏ธOffer shade whenever possible
โช๏ธConsider adding electrolytes to replace what is lost through sweat
โช๏ธSchedule riding and exercise during the cooler morning or evening hours
โช๏ธUse fans and increase airflow in stalls and barns
โช๏ธHose horses off after exercise and scrape excess water away to improve cooling
โช๏ธMonitor for signs of heat stress, including excessive sweating, rapid breathing, lethargy, elevated heart rate, or decreased appetite

Having extra precautions in place can go a long way towards keeping them cool and safe during the hottest months of the year.
