❓Did you know horses can have an “ear tooth”?

👂🏼An ear tooth, medically known as a dentigerous cyst, is a rare condition that develops before birth when tooth-forming tissue grows in an abnormal location near the base of the ear.

🔎 It may appear as a small swelling or an opening on the head that repeatedly drains fluid. Despite the nickname, it isn’t actually growing inside the ear! Treatment typically involves surgical removal of the cyst and tooth-like material. The area where the ear tooth was removed typically heals up nicely and you would never even know it was once there.

🎉Today we’re celebrating the person who helps keep Mid-South Equine running behind the scenes every single day!

📆 As our Office Manager, she’s the keeper of the schedules, the fixer of problems, the answerer of endless questions, and the one making sure the rest of us stay on track (whether we like it or not 😉).

✔️She’s mastered the art of juggling phones, paperwork, HVMS, and a team of veterinarians.

🎉 Please help us welcome our 2026–2027 Veterinary Interns to Mid-South Equine! 🎉

We are excited to introduce the newest members of our veterinary team! Over the next year, these doctors will expand their knowledge and hands-on experience while working alongside our veterinarians and caring for our patients.

Dr. Taylor Pappas

Taylor is a recent graduate from Oklahoma State University. Originally from Pennsylvania, she grew up riding hunter jumpers and has always had a passion for equine medicine. While she has a particular interest in sports medicine, she enjoys all aspects of equine practice. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with her dog, Milo.

Dr. Jake Jenson

Jake is a recent graduate of Iowa State University, and has always known he wanted to pursue a career in equine veterinary medicine. His professional interests include sports medicine, surgery, acupuncture, and general equine practice. After completing his internship, he plans to return to North Dakota to join his fiancé and continue caring for horses in the western part of the state.

Dr. Victor Zhidkov

Victor is a 2026 graduate of Texas A&M. Originally from the Russian Federation, he immigrated to the United States with three family members in 2011. He is excited to expand his knowledge and experience at Mid-South Equine and hopes to pursue a career in research in the future. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and exploring computer science.
