The Mazda kittens are growing and will soon be screening prospective adopters.

Miata and Savanna were both found right smack in the middle of highway 101. Both were actually run over by a car, both were miraculously uninjured. Kind drivers took them to vets, and Dan picked them up. They are well-socialized, healthy, and incredibly sweet.

Little Cosmo was found a few days later, all wet from the rain, eyes crusted shut, following a crow around begging for it to feed him. He isn't a fan of isolation, eyedrops, or medicine, but he sure does like having a full tummy. Everyday his breathing gets better and he gets stronger.

SALEM, Ore. (3 June 2026) – Paws up for OSP’s newest K-9 recruit. The one-year-old red Labrador Retriever is currently training to join K-9 Scout and K-9 Drake to help protect Oregon’s natural resources as part of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation K-9 program. While we’ll always call him “Good Dog,” he’s ready for a new, official name.

OSP is inviting Oregon youth ages 9-17 to help name the new dog. Because the K-9 and its trooper partner are assigned to the Fish and Wildlife Division, suggested names should be wildlife, fish, or outdoors-related.

Contest Rules:

Entries may be submitted now through June 14, 2026
Entries must be submitted using the OSP online entry form https://bit.ly/OSP_K-9Contesthttps://bit.ly/OSP_K-9Contest

The contest is open to Oregon youth ages 9-17
One entry per youth
Suggested names must be wildlife, fish, or outdoors-related
Finalists will be selected from the submitted entries for statewide voting
The youth with the winning entry will get a chance to meet the K-9 and receive other recognition items from OSP

Think you’ve got the perfect name? Send in your suggestion and help welcome OSP’s newest K-9 trooper to the team.

OSP’s conservation K-9 program began in 2018 with K-9 Buck, who recently retired from active service. Fish and Wildlife K-9s receive specialized training in wildlife detection, human tracking, and area searches to support investigations into the illegal take of birds, wildlife, and fish around the state. Dogs are trained to detect deer, elk, bear, turkey, waterfowl, salmon, and sturgeon, as well as fi****ms, shell casings, and other items containing gunpowder residue. Conservation K-9 teams have been instrumental during investigations into poaching, missing persons, and other criminal activity.

The new conservation K-9 team will be stationed at OSP’s La Grande patrol office, joining teams currently based in Bend and Springfield.

A huge thank you to our friends at TLC, a Division of Fibre Federal Credit Union. They have been long-time supporters of Tillamook Animal Shelter and we are so grateful. Recently they dropped by the shelter to present this year's check.

Here's some words from their post: Our Cash Club Cares Program keeps the good going for young savers and furry friends alike. 🐶🐱 We give $5 to the nearest animal shelter for each new youth savings account opened, up to $5,000 per year. Since 2017, we’ve given back $43,321 to help our furry friends! We recently presented Tillamook Animal Shelter with a $563 donation for the 2025 Tillamook County distribution, bringing our total donations to them to $4,721! Every new youth account means comfort and care for animals at the shelter! 🐶🐱

Blackthorn is Wolfsbane's older brother. They have the same mother but were born about a year apart. Somehow Thorn seems to know they're related, and he spends time every day washing his tiny brother. It's so sweet it makes my grinch heart grow bigger.

Wolfsbane is still struggling in the eating department. He takes zero interest in food of any texture or type and is still being fed via syringe. On a troubling note, I found him eating kitty litter last evening, so we replaced his pellet style litter with a p*e pad. He also licks blankets and towels.

Developmentally, Wolf has regained the ounce of weight he lost the first few days here--huge relief. He has begun purring when I pick him up, and he enjoys toddling around the living room. He has a special hiding spot under the couch.

All in all, it's been a stressful 5 days for both of us, but I think we're going to be okay.

Also, I am way too old for 2 AM feedings.

Coco is a two year old Chihuahua and Jack Russell mix. He's a good boy. So mellow and sweet. He's a little sad because he doesn't have his Dad anymore but I know we can find him a new family. Ready for adoption now.
