Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Inc. We are an all breed resecue This post is about the 1st abused and neglected horse Chance that we took in. A true life success story at our barn.

Danny Burrier and I started this crazy horse rescue and it has been the most satisfying journey we have taken together besides the kids and our marriage. Chance was a huge challenge he was so scared beaten and heading for slaughter. I stepped up to the challenge thank you Theresa Anderson-Nason for sending him our way. After 9 months and more hours and patience then you can imagine Chance has turn

ed the final turn and is now allowing himself to be caught Brenda Creighton :). Last night he allowed Ali Biehl to pet him and then catch him. Sunday he was in his stall and allowed Dustin Etzler to pet him. All of this is new Chance has never until recently allowed anyone daily to touch him besides myself. I have always been able to except in the beginning when he would even shake in his stall when I would go in and just sit in a chair for hours. I only wish we will continue to have this kind of success in our personal lives and with Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation. I know a lot of friends thought we were crazy but guess what we are and we and the horses are loving every crazy moment of it! I am only hoping we can find more horses like Chance so we can give them the opportunity to be the loving caring animal that they were meant to be. You truely have to understand where Chance was then and where he is now to appreciate why I am writing this post. We contribute his success to all the volunteers that come to the barn regularly that has also aided in Chance's story of abuse neglect disaster and trust. And in some ways a miracle all in its own.

Girls, Horses, Donkeys & Dogs ❤️ 🐴🫏🐶💕

Six years ago, Chrissy Walker walked through our gates knowing very little about horses and never having ridden one. What she did have was a willingness to learn, a huge heart, and a desire to help.

Fast forward to today, and she has become an incredible part of Rocky’s Horse Rescue. She stepped outside of her comfort zone, learned to ride, became our rescue secretary, helps with horse evaluations, and even owns a horse of her very own (not the one in today’s video).

Today, she took Paisley out for a short ride. Paisley may be an older mare, but she still has plenty to offer, and the two of them looked amazing together. Of course, Paisley’s devoted donkey fan club following her around everywhere she goes!

To finish off the day, we groomed 2 of our dogs.

From never being around horses to becoming a confident equestrian and invaluable volunteer, Chrissy is proof that it’s never too late to learn something new and follow your passion.

What an incredible transformation to witness. Volunteers like Chrissy truly become family, and watching them grow is one of the greatest joys of rescue. ❤️

For the first time in nearly 15 years, we are facing a reality we never imagined.

Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation has stopped all intakes. Even the emergency calls that break our hearts... we have had to say no.

Not because we don't care. Not because the need isn't there. But because we simply cannot continue to stretch resources that no longer exist.

Last week alone, we had to turn away eight horses in need because of a lack of funding and sponsorships. Eight. Eight animals we couldn't help, despite desperately wanting to.

We currently have only three active sponsors helping to support the sanctuary residents who depend on us every single day.

For almost 15 years, this rescue has been built on equal parts heartache and hope. We have mourned unimaginable losses, celebrated incredible recoveries, witnessed countless second chances, and experienced more joyful, heart-filling moments than we can count. Through it all, we have always found a way to keep going.

But today, we are struggling.

Like everyone else, we are feeling the impact of rising costs. Hay has increased. Feed has increased. Supplements, dental care, farrier visits, medications, and veterinary costs have all doubled. Yet the elderly horses, donkeys, and mules who call this sanctuary home still depend on us every single day.

These are the ones no one else wanted. The seniors. The special needs cases. The ones who deserve to spend their final years knowing kindness, comfort, and love.

One of our special residents, currently in foster care, is battling cancer and urgently needs surgery to remove his eye. Earl, the gentle soul we brought home from New Holland last year, is facing significant hoof issues that require extensive and ongoing care. And the list doesn't stop there.

Last month, we received just $300 in donations.

It costs a bare minimum of $3,000 every month simply to provide the basics for the elders in our care. Feed. Hay. Special diets. Supplements. Dental work. Hoof care. Veterinary needs. The things they cannot go without.

I have been dreading this moment for a very long time, and unfortunately, we are here. Asking for help has never come easily to us. We have always figured it out. We have stretched every dollar, sacrificed personally, and done whatever it took to honor the promise we made to these animals.

But today, we cannot do it alone.

We need to raise $5,000 as quickly as possible to cover the urgent surgery for one of our special residents and to meet the needs of the rest of the sanctuary animals through the month of June.

If you cannot donate, please share this post. Sharing costs nothing, but it may reach the person who can help.

Please don't let this be the end of Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation.

We're trying so hard to keep that promise.

Please help us keep it.

With grateful hearts,

Rocky's Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation ❤️

Not much to say about this, besides rescues are truly the best. 2 of my young grandkids are starting to see if they want to ride. Then this happened thanks to their Pappy, Ali and Chrissy. Beautiful day to be at the rescue.

I was very much enjoying Hobo’s attention yesterday. I think he could have stayed here all day.
