📣 Barn Planning Thoughts – Looking for Input
I’m in the early stages of planning a more permanent barn setup and I’m trying to be really intentional about it before building anything.
Current idea is:
2 dedicated training stalls
Housing for 6 personal horses + a donkey
Room to grow in the future
Possible shared stall setup for minis if needed
I’m leaning toward 12x12 stalls, but I’m still weighing the best structure for our setup and budget.
I keep coming across people talking about carport barn conversions, shed-row barns, and full pole barns—each with pros and cons depending on how they’re used long-term.
At this stage I’m mainly trying to figure out:
What has held up best for others with multiple animals?
What’s been the most cost-effective without becoming a regret later?
Any setups you would absolutely do again—or never do twice?
I’d really appreciate seeing real setups, honest experiences, and any advice from people who’ve built or modified barns for multiple horses.
Still very much in the planning phase, just trying to do it right the first time.
