Forever After All, 501c3 Nonprofit Organization Retirement shouldn’t be uncertain • Providing lifelong security for aging, unsound, and retired ranch and performance horses

Forever After All is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing lifelong care, sanctuary, and retirement for aging, unsound, or retired horses, including guest horses, working ranch horses, and performance horses. Founded by Melissa and Kurt Puckett, Forever After All addresses a critical gap in the equine industry: retired horses often lose their homes, are rehomed to unsuitable environments, or are sent to slaughter despite decades of service and companionship to humans.

For a retired horse, retirement isn’t just about no longer working, it’s about finally having the freedom to simply be a horse.

That means wide-open pastures to roam, fresh grass beneath their feet, trusted herd mates by their side, and the peace of living without the demands of a job.

Horses are herd animals. They thrive on companionship, routine, and the security of a safe environment. A stress-free pasture isn’t a luxury, it’s essential to their physical and emotional well-being. It’s where they can graze, rest, play, form friendships, and spend their days exactly as nature intended.

When you support Forever After All, you’re helping provide more than feed and veterinary care. You’re giving these horses something priceless: a permanent home where they’ll never have to worry about where they’ll go next.

Your generosity helps preserve the pastures they roam, the fencing that keeps them safe, the shelters that protect them from the elements, and the lifelong care that allows them to live out their retirement with dignity.
Because after a lifetime of caring for us, they deserve a lifetime of peace.

This is the Montana so many people dream of.

Towering pines. Winding rivers. Open meadows. The kind of places that stay with you long after you’ve gone home.

For generations, ranch horses have carried guests through these landscapes making those moments possible. They crossed rivers, climbed mountain trails, and faithfully carried families as they experienced the beauty of the West. While we admired the views, they were the reason we were able to reach them.

At Forever After All, we believe those years of service should be honored with a lifetime of care. After spending their lives helping others experience Montana, these horses deserve the chance to slow down, graze the same beautiful landscapes, and enjoy a peaceful retirement.

Because every working horse deserves a forever after.

Meet Gunnar, a talented header and gentle soul and a steady anchor on the Lipke Ranch. Whether roping and dragging calves at brandings, carrying toddlers and first-time riders, or guiding guests through Montana’s mountains, he gave his whole heart to every ride.

Brought home by Marcia as a misunderstood two year old written off as “lazy,” Gunnar just needed someone to believe in him. Their bond was immediate and unbreakable. His grit showed clearest the day a bison herd escaped near Roy, Montana: Gunnar pushed through eight miles of belly-deep snow without quitting until every last Bison was brought home safely.

When the ranch was sold after 25 years, Gunnar’s devoted legacy inspired the creation of Forever After All. In fall 2025, he came to Three Forks with Belle, Dylan, and Candy, where he now enjoys the peaceful rest he spent a lifetime earning.

Thank you Gunnar!

Some horses simply have a way of making every job look easy. Belle is one of those horses.

Belle came to the Lipke family from Culbertson, Montana, when she was around five or six years old. Already trained to pull a wagon, she quickly found her place alongside her brother, and together they became a dependable team that Melissa’s uncle, Roger, trusted for countless miles through the Highwood Mountains.

One of Roger’s favorite memories of Belle says everything about who she was. While pulling a wagon up a steep mountain trail, the team faced a deep washout running between them. An obstacle that would have unsettled many horses, Belle never hesitated. She stayed calm, steady, and pulled with quiet confidence, proving once again that she could always be counted on. She wasn’t flashy or demanding of attention. She was honest, dependable, and willing to do whatever was asked of her. Year after year, she safely carried guests into the mountains, helped create unforgettable memories, and became an irreplaceable part of the ranch.

When Roger and Marcia made the difficult decision to sell the family ranch, Melissa welcomed Belle into Forever After All. Alongside Gunnar, Dylan, and Candy, she made the journey from central Montana to Three Forks, where she now spends her days exactly as she deserves; surrounded by peace, good friends, and the lifelong care she earned through decades of faithful service.

We love you, Belle!

Happy Birthday to our Founder, Melissa Puckett!

Born and raised in Montana on a cattle ranch, Melissa has spent much of her life immersed in the Western lifestyle. Through ranch work, barrel racing, operations at Covered Wagon Ranch, and her work as a Certified Equine Sports Massage Therapist and PEMF practitioner, she has developed a deep appreciation for the horses that faithfully serve us.

Over the years, Melissa began to see a growing need: too many hardworking ranch and performance horses faced an uncertain future when their working days were over. After personally placing retired horses in trusted homes for years, she realized there simply weren’t enough lifelong retirement options.

That realization led Melissa and her husband, Kurt, to found Forever After All—a nonprofit dedicated to giving retired working horses the dignity, security, and lifelong care they’ve earned.

Please join us in wishing Melissa a very happy birthday and thanking her for the compassion and vision behind this mission!
