🌞 Keeping Your Dogs Safe During a Heat Wave 🐶🥵

Hot weather can become dangerous for dogs much faster than many people realize. Here are some simple ways to help keep your canine companion safe when temperatures soar:

🐾 Walk Early or Late
Avoid walks during the hottest part of the day (10 a.m.–6 p.m.). Early mornings and evenings are much cooler and safer.

💧 Fresh Water at All Times
Always provide plenty of cool, clean water. Bring water with you if you’re out for a walk or adventure.

🌳 Seek Shade
If your dog is outside, make sure they have access to shaded areas. Never leave them in direct sunlight for long periods.

🚗 Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car
Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can reach deadly levels within minutes.

🐾 Check the Pavement
If it’s too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Hot asphalt can cause painful burns.

🏊 Keep Them Cool
Cooling mats, kiddie pools, damp towels, fans, and air conditioning can all help prevent overheating.

⚠️ Know the Signs of Heatstroke
Watch for:

Excessive panting
Drooling
Bright red or pale gums
Weakness or collapse
Vomiting or diarrhea
Confusion or stumbling

🚨 Heatstroke is a medical emergency. If you notice these signs:

Move your dog to a cool area immediately.
Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water.
Wet them with cool water, especially their belly, paws, and neck.
Contact your veterinarian immediately while cooling your dog during transport.

🐶 Extra Care for High-Risk Dogs
Puppies, senior dogs, overweight pets, flat-faced breeds (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boxers), and dogs with heart or breathing conditions are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness.

❤️ When in Doubt, Stay Inside
Some days are simply too hot for outdoor play. Your dog will be much happier enjoying indoor games, training sessions, and plenty of cuddles until the temperatures drop.

If you’re concerned your pet may be suffering from heatstroke or dehydration, don’t wait—contact our veterinary clinic right away. Early treatment can save lives. 🩺🐾
