We had the pleasure of meeting a new client in CT today that had two mini pigs and a farm hog that needed hoof care. These three piggies were a bonded trio from a hoarding case in Torrington CT . It was so refreshing to meet a couple who were quite creative in their construction of their own homemade " lift" for their farm hog "Squiggles" so that his hooves could be safely trimmed .
Many people have very good intentions when adopting 600lb farm hogs but they dont have a realistic plan for hoof care or transport in case the animal needs to be brought somewhere for vet care.
Botton line ? You're gonna need a lift at some point and also machinery to accommodate the lift. You're going to need a transport plan in case it's needed...that essentially is a horse trailer, or access to someone else with a horse trailer thats willing to transport. A 600lbs farm hog isn't fitting in your SUV.
These huge animals are a huge responsibility. Have a plan in place!! These clients had a plan and it was executed beautifully! ❤️

Hey friends! Guess what? Its freakin HOT as hell this week!! You know what that means...? rescheduling of outdoor hoof trimming appointments to future ( hopefully cooler and less humid) dates. I understand that this can be frustrating to clients waiting for hoof care. But I WILL NOT risk the safety and health of a pig in extreme hot weather just to trim their hooves. A pig with longer unruly hooves is better off than a dead pig from acute heat stroke! Our indoor piggies with access to air conditioning are of course exempt from cancelation, but STILL should be kept inside for a minimum of 30 minutes after a hoof care procedure in order to cool down efficiently after a potentially stressful trimming appointment. Some Piggies experience increased blood pressure during a trim and become worked up so they need time to decompress and cool off after a trim. You can actually observe their flushed , blotchy skin on the belly area in really upset pigs once you have them flipped! 😱

I appreciate everyone's understanding with our strict policies. I promise you, when it's safe to do so, we'll get your piggy trimmed up!!

Due to how busy we are covering our piggie clients hoof care needs, our own crew sometimes get put on the back burner. We had the day "off" so we figured with the crappy weather, it would be a good indoor barn day to trim our four ! The girls were complete obnoxious drama queens and the boys were dignified quiet gentlemen 🙄 😂

This was a FIRST, gift-wise from our RI client Erica! 😆 A giant pig donut cake!!!! 🍩 Both Dan and I ate each ear and intend on sharing it with our 4 piggies as a special treat! It was DELICIOUS!!!!!! 😋 🐷

Could Dan BE any more awesomer of a husband/ business partner??!!!! Some of these pigs are heavier than HIM!!!!!! 😆 ❤️ and to think....hes got a bachelor's in accounting ... the universe was like " No. You shall wrestle pigs...."

P.s. his degree DOES come in handy though.... he handles the books!!!!! 📖

We hope everyone is fairing ok in this brutal cold!!! This is a friendly reminder to please have walkways to your home or barn shoveled and cleared of snow and salted to treat icy conditions prior to our arrival. There's been a few situations where we've had to very carefully descend / ascend icy and unshoveled stairs with equipment and its been dicey to say the least!!! We Must Have a clear path and safe access to where you and your piggy are in order to stay safe ourselves. If you are unable to clear snow or treat ice on your scheduled appointment day you will need to reschedule for our safety. Please note, outdoor appointments may be rescheduled if the cold/ windchills are unsafe to work in. Your piggy would rather be snuggled up in a straw nest than be flipped with their belly exposed to the cold!!! 😱 Stay warm and toasty folks!!!!

ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION !!!!!

Working out in this heat just about killed me today.... I can't even properly FUNCTION in it! I can't do that to myself again....once I get hot there's no cooling me down.... sorry clients...if you have outdoor piggies and it's going to be over 85 and if there's ANY humidity at all, I'll have to reschedule you until fall unless you can bring them inside in the AC. I got dizzy and shakey today and almost dropped my dremel twice which can lead to serious injuries to myself and your animal.. and thats WITH frequent hydration / electrolytes .Just not safe to work in this weather. Not worth the risk to ANYONE. 🔥 🥵
