And it all comes together. I genuinely love how this mount turned out and am kinda jealous I don’t get to keep him. The amount of detail, thought and care that went into this truly makes it a passion project. Originally the lion was going to be on a tree limb but form positioning made that somewhat difficult. After some searching I found a rock big enough that would fit him. I had already mounted him with an open mouth and more alert ears (not the typical pinned that are more for a stressed and/or really aggressive lion). His expression was more of a “I see you, I’m not scared of you but I don’t like you, get away” and I now had a big rock with lots of space to give him the reason why he was saying that. My thoughts behind the habitat were to recreate an early spring timeframe with melting snow and mud, the pile of bones below him are an old deer he cached sometime in the fall, maybe early winter (is that when he got that scar on his leg - from taking the that deer down?). And because he’s on a rock ledge there’s not a whole lot of dirt to bury his kill (burying their meal is typical mountain lion behavior) so he used whatever dirt or snow was available. But now that most of that snow is gone other critters are checking out his treasure. The question is what is he snarling at?
