Sometimes, the lives we change aren't just the ones with four paws, and this little boy is proof of that! 💙
Meet Bennett, one of the youngest members of our Thomasville Humane family, whose story is a special reminder that the impact of our mission reaches far beyond the walls of our shelter!
Back in January, Bennett's mom reached out to us with a special request. Her animal-loving little boy was getting ready to start preschool, and she hoped that spending time volunteering with our animals might help him build confidence, connect with others, and feel more comfortable in new environments.
In March, 3-year-old Bennett began visiting us alongside his mom. At first, he was shy, rarely making eye contact or speaking to our staff, but there was one thing he never hesitated to do… show love to the animals! 💙
Our team wanted to make sure Bennett had a place where he felt comfortable, included, and excited to come back. We created a routine just for him, with small tasks, opportunities to help care for the animals, and plenty of encouragement along the way. He found a community of people who shared his love for animals, and with every visit, we watched his confidence grow!
Fast forward to today, and Bennett is FOUR! The little boy who once barely spoke to our staff is now chatting with everyone, helping out at community events, regularly participating in Doggy Day Out with his family, and even approaching people to tell them about Thomasville Humane! 🐾
One of the sweetest parts of this story is hearing from his mom about how much Bennett has grown outside the shelter, too. She's seen his confidence grow and his kindness shine through in his everyday life!
She shared that on his very first day of school, Bennett's teachers noticed him comforting other children who were having a hard time, offering cuddles and gentle back pats to help them feel better. The same little boy who once needed encouragement to feel comfortable around others was now helping others feel comfortable, too. 💙
THIS is what Creating Impact Every Day looks like! 💙 We see firsthand how much our community does for the animals at Thomasville Humane, but Bennett's story reminds us just how much our work can mean to the people who get involved, too. We're so grateful for a community that gives so much to our animals, and it means just as much to us to have opportunities to give back to the people who make our mission possible.!
