Being a vet tech is so much more than a job. It’s being a comforting presence when a pet is scared, a gentle touch when they need reassurance, and a voice for the patients who can’t speak for themselves. To our valued clients,

After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue after-hours emergency services for small animals, effective November 2, 2026.

We will continue to offer 24 hours emergency services for our equine patients and clients!

This was not an easy decision. We understand how important it is to have access to veterinary care when your dog or cat becomes ill or injured outside of regular business hours, and we recognize that this change may be disappointing for many of our clients.

Veterinary medicine continues to evolve, and like most general practices, we must adapt to the changing demands of our profession while continuing to provide the best care possible to the patients and clients who depend on us. We have not made this decision lightly, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding.

🐶 WATCH OUT FOR A REEL ON EAR CLEANING!! 🐕

Have you ever noticed your pet shaking their head, scratching their ears, or a bad odor near their head? A small amount of ceruminous (waxy) debris may be normal; however excess debris (dark brown or even yellow/white), redness, odor, and increased sensitivity are signs that an infection is brewing.

Ear infections are seen commonly in our clinic. Many factors play a role in the development of ear inflammation and the overgrowth of organisms such as increased/prolonged moisture, allergies, anatomy, and even parasites such as ear mites.

If you are worried your pet may have an ear infection, an examination of the ear and cytology of a sample from the ear canal should be performed. Examining a sample under the microscope helps identify whether yeast, bacteria, or other changes are present. This allows us to choose the most effective treatment to provide the fastest relief for your pet!

🐾 Lucky’s Special Story — and an Important Reminder for Future Pet Parents 🐾

Meet Lucky, a very special pup who came to Thomasville Animal Hospital with an uncommon congenital condition called perineal hypospadias.

Hypospadias is an abnormality present at birth in which the urinary opening does not develop in its normal location. In Lucky’s case, the abnormal anatomy was significant enough that surgical correction was needed.

Fortunately, Lucky had people looking out for him. ❤️

When his breeder realized that something wasn’t right with his anatomy, she took responsibility and had Lucky evaluated by us. After examination and diagnosis, our team at Thomasville Animal Hospital was able to surgically correct the abnormality.

We’re happy to report that Lucky did wonderfully! 🐶

Even better, Lucky has since been adopted by a wonderful family who understood his history and was excited to give this special little guy the loving home he deserves.

Lucky’s story also highlights something we feel is important for anyone considering bringing home a new puppy or kitten:

🩺 A veterinary examination before purchasing or adopting a pet can be incredibly valuable.

Some congenital abnormalities are obvious, but others can easily go unnoticed without a thorough physical examination. Having a veterinarian examine a new pet can help identify concerns early, allow everyone involved to make informed decisions, and—when treatment is needed—give that pet the best opportunity for a healthy future.

In Lucky’s case, early recognition, responsible action by his breeder, surgical treatment, and a committed adoptive family all came together for a wonderful outcome.

We think his name fits him pretty well. 🍀🐾
