***Update***
*Emma has found a perfect retirement home! Thank you all for your interest and shares!šŸ¾ā¤ļøšŸ¾*

We are putting feelers out for a future placement of our retired AKC GCH adult basenji girl, ā€˜Emma’, this summer (once she is healed from her spay).

Emma is a 7 yr old, playful, lovable girl who has had a very successful show career and has excelled in furthering our breed with her beautiful offspring. She is an excellent, non-destructive, house companion and loves to snuggle up to a warm body on a couch or a bed.
Emma does have a high prey drive, so the ideal home should not have any other species of animals or small dogs. She may get along with another basenji of opposite s*x or similar sized breed.
Emma is fine with most people she meets and accustomed to respectful children of all ages, however she has had a rare instance of not accepting certain people into her domain (never any problems away from home)- and because of this, the prospective new home must come to meet her/us in person and live within a reasonable driving distance of Spring/The Woodlands, TX.

The decision does not come lightly to place her, but being a responsible, multi-basenji, show breeder- allowing some of our retirees the opportunity to have their own doting home and bless the life of another family, comes as a win/win situation for all.

There is a rehoming fee associated with Emma (to cover costs of spay and preparations for placement).

Serious inquiries can PM me or email: [email protected] or call/text 832-567-8708.

***Info Regarding Our Basenji Puppies***

We appreciate all the inquiries as of late about availability of basenji puppies! Unfortunately, all of our babies from our planned breeding born this Spring have all been placed in their loving homes and we are currently undecided if we will plan a litter for next Spring.

*Basenjis typically only come in season/heat once a year and that’s usually in the Fall/Winter months.
*By this time every year, basenji puppies are usually already placed by their breeders into their new homes, who have been on a waiting list.
*NOW* is the time to start your search for a reputable breeder to get on a waiting list for NEXT spring litters!

*The best starting place for finding good and ethical breeders is the national breed club website, the Basenji Club of America (BCOA). The BCOA works very closely with the AKC and OFA to set recommendations for standards and health testing of Basenjis used for breeding. These recommendations ensure genetic issues don’t plague the breed and that puppies are not produced who will be afflicted with genetic disorders and diseases. You can find a breeder directory here, broken up by state: https://www.basenji.org/index.php/about-basenjis/breeder-directory

The BCOA also has a breeder liaison, Denise Vertrees, who helps people locate breeders if they're not sure where to start. Not all breeders are listed in the directory as some don’t breed every year, so emailing Denise may give you more results than the directory. Her email is [email protected]

It should be noted that even though breeders may be listed through the BCOA, there are NO set requirements for BCOA breeders nor ANY breeders in the USA, only recommendations, so each breeder is different in their standards and practices. EVERY breeder should be vetted thoroughly and all claims should be verified for accuracy.

Pedigrees can be verified on the Zande pedigree database
http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/
and health results can be verified on the OFA website.
https://www.ofa.org/
Any breeder who will not give you information to research on the pedigree database or OFA’s website is a potential red flag. Reputable breeders often pride themselves on transparency in their breeding practices and will readily share pertinent information with potential buyers.

A basenji puppy from a responsible breeder will usually cost between $1500–$2500 depending on the area and location. Puppy mills and unethical breeders can often run the same amount, so price should never be a deciding factor! One of the biggest myths about getting a puppy is that you don't need to go to a responsible breeder if you just want a pet. Most breeders who participate in dog shows and whose puppies have champions in their pedigrees keep just one or two of the best puppies from a litter for show. All the rest go straight to pet homes. (It's also worth mentioning that the vast majority of "show dogs" are pets on their days off, too)!

Happy hunting & baroos from the Relic Basenji crew!!

While we wait for our planned litter to occur this year at Relic, we would like to share news of *confirmed* litters coming up using our boys!

*PLEASE NOTE*
This litter will be whelped & raised in Massachusetts, by the breeders of our boy, ā€˜Eric’.

Show homes and/or previous basenji experienced companion homes who are willing to travel to pick up a pup in MA, are invited to inquire at this time.
Please send inquiries to:
[email protected] or http://www.eldoradobasenji.com/2016/Puppy/Litter.php.

Both sire & dam of this litter are completely health tested to breed recommended OFFA CHIC standards, with public results available at www.ofa.org.

This album is dedicated to my three wonderful, animal-loving daughters and their adventures in competing in Jr showmanship and breed classes with our basenjis.

The Oldest - Hailey:
Hailey was able to compete very briefly in Jr showmanship at 14 yrs old. She did quite well during the brief time and ended up ranking #5 Jr Basenji Handler for 2014. Once she entered highschool, her robust curriculum along with officer roles and various competitions and animal projects in both 4-H and FFA, made it difficult for her to continue her Jr showmanship activities. However, she really enjoyed her short time competing in the dog show world.

The Middle - Lauren
Lauren started showing in the Jr Showmanship program in October 2015, at 10 yrs old. It has been truly amazing to see what a natural talent she has for dog handling! In the short amount of competing thus far, she has won many 1st places in her class, moving her up into the more competitive Open Jr Handling and has won THREE Best Reserve Jr Handler in Show awards! She was ranked as the #2 Jr Basenji Handler for 2015. In addition, she has solely taken on the project of specialing her Jr Handling partner, Delilah, and completed her GCH title on 5/1/2016. One of Lauren's proudest moments in handling to date, has been winning Best Jr Handler at the 2018 Basenji Club of America's National Specialty with our superstar bred/co-owned boy, 'Bazinga'! Lauren has caught the attention of several breeder-owner-handlers and judges alike, with her handling skills. A wonderful compliment received from a very respected judge, was that Lauren had "very quiet hands". We are very proud and excited for Lauren's bright future in dog handling!

The Youngest (future) - Paige
At 5 years old, our littlest future handler has only just begun to discover her love of dogs. She will get to try out Pee-Wee showmanship this year! She is already mom's basenji helper with feeding, brushing and exercising. I can already see the love growing at such a young age. How could she escape it? Exhibiting animals truly runs in the blood of our immediate AND extended family! :-)

DOB: 12/15/2018
Sire: BISS GCH Akuaba N Eldorado Chariots of Fire
Dam: Avongara Nilli (Full African Import- DRC)
Bred By: Jon Curby & Kimberly Siefert
Owned By: Dianna Sanders, Lauren Sanders, Kimberly Siefert

We are super excited to add a high percent recent African import to our breeding program this year! Little miss princess Poppy was our stud puppy pick back from the litter sired by our "Eric" out of the lovely and super sweet, imported African bitch, "Honey". We have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our home and loving this beautiful and highly intelligent girl! Poppy is learning some basic obedience commands and recently started tip-toeing in conformation showing. There are many future plans for this special girl, ranging from obedience/agility, coursing events, conformation, jr showmanship team and eventually adding her African diversity to the gene pool. We fully envision her being our true "all around hound"!
Much appreciation for breeders, Kim Siefert and Jon Curby for allowing Poppy to reside and to be loved by us!

Poppy's Health Stats:
Fanconi: Carrier
PRA: Clear (by parentage)
