⚠️ IMPORTANT PET HEALTH ALERT ⚠️
Recent cases of canine distemper have been reported in parts of Massachusetts. Distemper is a highly contagious and potentially fatal viral disease that affects dogs and certain wildlife species, including raccoons, skunks, foxes, and coyotes.
Signs of distemper may include:
🐾 Coughing
🐾 Nasal or eye discharge
🐾 Fever
🐾 Lethargy
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 Loss of appetite
🐾 Tremors, twitching, or seizures
The good news? Distemper is preventable through vaccination.
We encourage all pet owners to make sure their dogs are current on their distemper and rabies vaccines. Cats should also remain current on their FVRCP ("feline distemper") and rabies vaccines to protect against other serious infectious diseases.
🚫 Avoid contact with wildlife, especially animals that appear sick, disoriented, unusually friendly, or aggressive.
❗ If your pet or a family member is bitten or scratched by a wild animal, seek veterinary or medical care immediately.
Not sure if your pet is up to date on vaccines? Give us a call and we'll be happy to review their records and schedule an appointment if needed.
