When my first dog Ruby was a puppy, I quickly learned that the most important commands weren’t “speak” or “shake.” Instead, they were the ones that kept her safe. While teaching her tricks has been a fun pastime, keeping our sweet pup safe was ultimately more important than any trick we could teach her—and it didn’t take much time or effort on our part.

As much as we all love taking our pups out and about on our daily adventures, we owe it to them to make sure they’re truly ready before taking them out on the town.

Save this post to review the Urban Bird Dog checklist before taking your anxious dog out and about:

1) Teach basic obedience and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE

2) Master obedience training in a familiar setting before venturing out into the big, distracting world
