Every cat and dog who comes through our doors has a story.

Some arrive hungry and underweight, wondering where their next meal will come from. Some come to us after being abandoned, left behind, or losing the only family they've ever known. Others need extensive veterinary care—expensive dental procedures, treatment for illness or injury, or simply time to heal from the physical and emotional scars of their past.

At ARF, we believe every animal deserves that chance.

We provide medical care, nutritious food, safe shelter, patience, and love. We give them the time they need to recover, to learn that people can be kind, and to rediscover what it means to feel safe. We celebrate every milestone—from the frightened one who finally accepts a gentle pet, to the senior who feels comfortable enough to nap in the sunshine, to the once-neglected soul who blossoms into a confident and affectionate companion.

Meet our current group of Shelter Cats - we are sharing them here now because our cat shelter is at FULL CAPACITY.
The cats featured here are at different points in their journey. Some are ready right now for the forever homes they've been waiting for. Others are still receiving medical care, completing their vetting, or taking the time they need to heal before their adoption stories can begin. We can't wait to introduce those cats to you as soon as they're ready.

Meet Holly & Jewels 💕

These two sweet girls have spent years together and are hoping to find a forever home where they can stay side by side. They're not sisters by blood, but they've been family for a long time and take comfort in having one another nearby.

Holly is a beautiful mostly-white girl with adorable calico markings who lives for snacks, brushing sessions, and attention. Jewels is a lovable tabby with white paws who never says no to pets, treats, or a cozy lap.

Both girls are friendly, affectionate, and easygoing. They enjoy chasing string toys, watching the world from a sunny window, and curling up on soft blankets after a good play session. They get along wonderfully with other friendly cats and would thrive in a calm, loving home where they can enjoy their golden years together.

Meet Skylar 🖤
At just 11 months old, Skylar has already been through more than any kitten should. She became a mama far too young, battled a rare pregnancy-related condition, spent time in emergency care, and gave everything she had to survive and heal.
And now? Skylar is finally ready to just be somebody’s baby.
She is sweet, resilient, litter box perfect, vaccinated, spayed, and full of quiet charm. After everything her little body has been through, she deserves the softest landing — a sunny window, a cozy lap, and a family who will love her for the rest of her life.
Skylar would do best as the only cat in the home, where she can be queen of the castle. A friendly dog may be just fine with the right introduction.
She’s currently in foster care in Terryville, CT and is ready to meet her forever family.

Meet Rue, a handsome 3-year-old gentleman with striking green eyes, a love of belly rubs, and a personality that’s every bit as wonderful as his looks. This laid-back guy enjoys sunny window views, watching the world go by, and spending time with his favorite humans.
Rue gets along fine with other animals but seems to appreciate having a little personal space and room to relax. Whether he’s your one-and-only feline friend, joins a home with a compatible cat, or even shares life with a friendly dog, Rue’s biggest wish is simply a loving home where he can settle in, soak up the sunshine, and be part of the family.
