🌈 In Loving Memory of Gypsy 🖤🐾

On Thursday, we said goodbye to a very special member of the ARF family. Our sweet senior girl Gypsy passed peacefully at approximately 15 years old after her health declined from advanced kidney disease and hyperthyroidism.

But Gypsy’s story is about so much more than how it ended. It’s about what can happen when someone opens their home and heart to a senior shelter cat. ❤️

Gypsy came to ARF in 2022 from a terrible hoarding and eviction situation. She arrived malnourished and neglected, already suffering from chronic kidney disease, urinary stones and a heart murmur. She wasn’t eating, and the busy shelter environment was difficult for this older girl.

What Gypsy needed most was a home.

Thankfully, a wonderful woman who offered to volunteer to be Gypsy’s foster mom, Deb, gave her one.

And Gypsy blossomed. 🖤 She became a happy, spoiled and wonderfully sassy girl who knew exactly when treat time was! She received the veterinary care, special diet and attention she needed—but most importantly, she had a quiet home, soft places to sleep and someone who loved her.

For several years, Gypsy wasn’t simply in foster care. She was home.

Deb lovingly cared for her through the realities of senior life and chronic illness, right through to the end. We cannot thank her enough for giving this deserving old girl the happy golden years she might never have otherwise known. Deb, we are forever grateful for you 💓

And this is why fosters matter...

Sometimes fostering is a bridge to adoption. Sometimes, as with Gypsy, it becomes a forever home for an older or medically fragile animal.

There will always be another Gypsy who needs someone. If you have room in your home and heart, please consider becoming an ARF foster or volunteer.

You may think you’re giving a shelter cat somewhere to stay but to them, you’re giving them a life. ❤️

Rest peacefully, sweet Gypsy. You were safe. You were home. You were loved. 🌈🐾

🎉🐾 DOUBLE SENIOR ADOPTION CELEBRATION: HOLLY & JEWELS ARE HOME! 🐾🎉

Some adoptions make us happy. And then there are adoptions like this one that make our hearts feel like they might just burst. ❤️

Our beautiful senior girls Holly & Jewels have been ADOPTED — TOGETHER! 🏡💕

These two best friends came to ARF after their owner was forced to move somewhere that couldn’t allow cats. After spending so many years together in the home they knew, suddenly finding themselves in a shelter was a huge change. But through it all, they had each other.

Holly, our beautiful mostly-white girl with her adorable calico cap and tail, and Jewels, our sweet brown tabby with the little white paws, have always been a package deal. They may not be sisters by blood, but they are sisters in every way that matters. ❤️

And now, they get to start their next chapter exactly the way we hoped they would: side by side, in a loving home of their very own.

There is something incredibly special about someone opening their heart to a senior animal. Senior cats have already lived so much life. They’ve known routines, people and places they loved, and sometimes loss and uncertainty, too. They may have a few more years behind them, but they still have SO much love left to give.

So when someone chooses not just one senior kitty, but two bonded senior girls who need to stay together… well, that’s the kind of adoption we celebrate extra loudly. 🥹❤️

To Holly & Jewels’ wonderful adopter: THANK YOU. Thank you for seeing how much these girls still have to offer. Thank you for giving them the security of staying together. And thank you for choosing to make their golden years truly golden. ✨

We wish you, Holly, and Jewels many happy golden years ahead together!

🌈 In Loving Memory of Freddie & Lacy 🐾

Some lives are far too short, but that doesn’t make them any less meaningful.

These past two weeks, our ARF family said goodbye to two very special cats.

Freddie, just over a year old, lost his battle with complications from feline leukemia (FeLV), a disease he contracted at birth. While our hearts are broken, we find comfort imagining him healthy again, reunited with his beloved brother Barnie, who passed earlier this summer from the same disease. Together again, chasing birds and butterflies beyond the Rainbow Bridge. ❤️

A special thank you to Donna and her family, Freddie and Barnie’s volunteer foster mom, for giving these sweet brothers a life filled with love, dignity, comfort, and happiness. Donna shared that Freddie was the sweetest boy and the very best bird watcher. Though his time was short, it was filled with love because of you and your family.

We also lost our precious shelter kitten, Lacy, at only 10 weeks old. When she suddenly became ill, an ultrasound revealed her liver was covered with untreatable cysts, leaving no chance of recovery. The kindest gift we could give her was a peaceful goodbye, surrounded by love. She deserved so much more time. Our shelter volunteers’ hearts are broken.

Rescue isn’t only about happy endings. It’s about loving every animal that comes through our doors, whether they’re with us for years or only days. Every single one becomes family.

To our volunteers and fosters: thank you for carrying both the joy and the heartbreak. Your compassion changes lives every single day.

Please help us continue our mission by donating, fostering, volunteering, adopting, or simply sharing our story. Since 1971, ARF has been here for animals with nowhere else to turn, and with your support, we’ll continue to be there.

Run free, Freddie, Barnie, and Lacy. You were loved beyond measure, and you always will be. ❤️❤️❤️🌈🐾🐾🐾
