Did you know? Piglets are born with almost no body fat and rely entirely on huddling together for warmth in their first weeks of life. 🐷

That instinct to pile up doesn't fully go away. Even older pigs will seek out warmth and company when temperatures drop, which is worth keeping in mind as September nights start to cool down.

Making sure your pigs have dry bedding and a draft-free space heading into fall is one of the simplest things you can do for their comfort and their feed conversion. ☺️

The lessons these kids are getting right now, patience, responsibility, gentleness, the understanding that animals depend on you showing up consistently, those don't come from a classroom.

September is a good reminder of why so many farm families feel strongly about keeping the next generation close to the animals and the work. 🙌

Did you know? 🐓 Roosters have different nutritional needs than laying hens, and most backyard keepers don't find this out until there's already a problem.

Layer feeds are formulated with high calcium levels to support egg production. Roosters don't need that calcium and can't process it the same way. Over time, the excess can cause kidney damage.

If you have a mixed flock, an all-flock feed with oyster shell offered separately on the side is usually the smarter move. 🙌
