We take monthly boarders, as well as short stays as a horse hotel/layover barn. Our trainers start green c**ts and work on problem behaviors in horses. We start with ground work with all horses. We use natural horsemanship principles to build respect in horses.

Day 8 and 9 at Sikanni in the books. On day 8, we went on another trail ride and bumped into some local residents. Day 9 consisted of putting additional rides on the herds greenest horses. Day 9 also consisted of teaching the horses to follow a feel with their shoulders. Day 9 concluded with a good meal.

Finished the first week off at Sikanni River Ranch with liberty and halter work. It was also great to watch Doug Mills prepare a young spicy 2 year old for its first ride. It went off without a hitch. My favorite pictures are of the horses that are laying down after being ground tied. Today will be a day of much needed rest.

Had a blast on our trial ride through the mountains yesterday. Our destination was a huge lake. To get to the lake, we had to cross the Sikanni River which is deeper than normal because of the snow melting from the mountain tops. You also had to compensate for the swift current. Along the was we saw stone goats, elk, bison, and a bald eagle. We also saw a grizzly bear track. Glad we only saw the track. Back at it today training the ranches horses.

Some cool pictures from Sikanni River Ranch. Day 1 consisted of teaching the horses to be caught. This was done while it rained and snowed a little. Day 2 also involved teaching the horses to be caught along with halter and ridden work. After a long day of working horses, I have been taking advantage of ranch’s sauna and cold plunge. The cold plunge is no fun but you definitely feel refreshed afterwards.

Betsey made it to Sikanni River Ranch. Tomorrow she starts getting to work with the ranch’s horses and getting one on one coaching from Doug Mills. She will also be helping coach some of the other participants.

Red is not your normal c**t start or problem horse. Red is a big, strong, very reactive 6-year old gelding. We always do our homework in regard to liberty work in the round pen and halter work, but with Red, you definitely make sure every issue is addressed before you throw a leg over. The first ride on Red could not have gone better. Looking forward to seeing how far we can progress with this big guy.
