“I’m so grateful we did board & train with Cultivate K9! My two mature dogs (6 & 10) had most of their basic obedience, but we struggled with reactivity and socialization. It was stressful and embarrassing to have strangers come to the house, be outside with the dogs when we had packages delivered, or take them out in public. We struggled with leash pulling and reactivity when seeing other dogs while out and about. Our younger dog, a COVID puppy, was not aggressive but insecure and unreliable around strangers and small children. I felt out of my depth when it came to correcting any of this behavior, and so my world with the dogs got smaller and more stressful, and my dogs were not as happy as they could be.
Megan came to our house for a consultation to see the dogs in their element and get an idea of the kind of behavior we were most eager to work on—socialization, confidence building, leash manners, and reducing reactivity. My hopes were not super high since my dogs were older and their behavior was engrained. But Megan’s training exceeded my expectations! She sent lots of photos and videos while she had the dogs. They returned home with a solid understanding of their new training, but it was up to us to see it through and reinforce it. We have been diligent about practicing our training and taking the dogs on outings to stores, cafes and parks. Megan was excellent at training us as well! Our followup lessons could be tailored to what we needed the most support with and what suited our lifestyle. We had our most recent followup lesson at the Terre Haute Farmer’s Market, where Megan could help us build our confidence on a busier outing.
Our lives have opened up since we completed our training! We walk calmly in a loose leash, we stay outside when neighbors or delivery trucks pass by, and we have the most well-behaved dogs when we take them on public outings. Best of all, the dogs both seem happier, calmer and more confident with these new boundaries in place. When we’re not sure how to handle something, Megan is a great source of support and guidance. Can’t recommend them enough!”
