Some helpful hints for adopting a pet from a rescue or shelter.

1) make sure everyone in the house is " onboard" for this adoption.
To waste a rescuer's time and have a 30-minute conversation that will not produce an adoption is a waste of VERY limited time and energy.
We want to put an animal in your home! Help us to help you!
Please make sure everyone is on board before you reach out.
2) When you are asked to message for more info.. Please put your best foot forward. Could you take an extra minute to tell me about you and your pet experience? Maybe a little detail about your last pet or the pets currently in your home. Please know, if something like a Golden Retriever puppy is available... you are one of 50 people messaging, tell us something that sets you apart!
3) Please do not reach out if you're going on vacation and are not available for weeks.
Be prepared, that if you are approved that you will be expected to pick up your new fur kid within days.
We're scrambling for openings, we cannot hold an animal once a match is made.
4) Please READ the posting.. if the posting says no other pets, or no young children.. trust the rescue knows the dog. Please don't waste time arguing. There are so many homeless animals. Find one that is an appropriate match for your home. 5) if your first question is how much? It may not be the right time financially to adopt a pet. There's an adoption fee ..There has to be an adoption fee. We have to try to cover our costs of vetting and transportation. . The cost of Veterinary Care has gone up roughly since 25% since covid. To walk in the door to say "hello"at a vet's office is $70 and the cost goes from there. If you're sweating and adoption fee. You may not have the money in the family budget to care for an animal. We strongly recommend that if you do end up adopting. You get pet insurance immediately. The cost of Veterinary Care is projected to go up 40% in the next 3 years. 6) Do not seek an animal as a gift. Do not get an animal because your child wants an animal. This is a living creature that requires a lot of commitment, dedication, training, social time. A child cannot be responsible for an animal. It's too much to put upon a child and its unfair to an animal .. It's not the way to teach your child responsibility. This is not a toy . This is a living creature dependent upon a human for all of its needs. Rather than getting a gift..You can always reach out to an organization and offered to pay the adoption fee for a friend. But that person absolutely must be involved and should choose their own animal. 7) The animal for adoption is posted on multiple pages. Please understand that writing "interested" in the comments will do nothing for you to connect with the adopter. Please follow the directions on how to make contact. If you are truly interested you will reread the post on how to make contact.

8) Be nice! The rescuers are helping animals on top of their regular commitments to employers, family, and their own pets.
Give them a minute to get back to you.. if you don't hear back, try again! Things get lost in cyberspace.

Five dogs were trapped inside a parked car in Newport Beach, California, with the windows only slightly cracked open. Most were confined in cages and already showing signs of distress as the temperature inside climbed.

When an officer arrived and realized the dogs were in immediate danger, he didn't hesitate. He smashed the window and pulled all five dogs to safety.

A veterinarian later found that their body temperatures had reached potentially deadly levels. Thankfully, all five survived and have since recovered.

The owner was issued a misdemeanor citation for multiple animal-welfare violations, and the case was sent to the Orange County District Attorney's Office for review. Three of the dogs remain at the Newport Beach Animal Shelter and are available for adoption.

A cracked window does not make a parked car safe. The temperature inside can become dangerously high within minutes, even when it doesn't feel extreme outside.

If you ever see an animal trapped in a dangerously hot vehicle, don't just assume someone else will help. Contact authorities immediately. ❤️🐾
