Rodney James Atwell

Rodney James Atwell, 66, known to many as Rod, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Temple, Texas, after a short battle with cancer.

Born on December 29, 1959, in Ft. Worth, Texas, Rodney built a life grounded in hard work, loyalty, and a straightforward way of living. He graduated from Crawford High School, where he did particularly well in shop class, an early sign of the skill and dedication that would shape his life’s work. He went on to begin working on mechanics and made it a lifetime career at Shortridge Automotive LLP.

Rodney was a man who found meaning in honest work and in being useful to others. He was not afraid to roll up his sleeves, and he became known not only as a dependable professional but also as someone willing to help others in his spare time as a shade tree mechanic. Friends and co-workers knew him as a true friend, a steady presence, and someone whose knowledge and work ethic earned lasting respect.

He lived simply and fully in the ways that mattered most to him. Rodney was a Dallas Cowboys fan and was well known for enjoying a good time after hours. He carried a great sense of dry humor, and while he could be grouchy at times, that quality was simply part of the genuine and memorable character that those who knew him came to appreciate. A true grease monkey at heart, he brought authenticity, wit, and generosity to the people around him.

Rodney is survived by his brother, Steven Atwell, and Steven’s wife, Cindy; and by his sister, Linda, and her husband, Bill along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, June Routt; his father, Bud Atwell; and his brother, Rocky Atwell.

Rodney will be remembered for his mechanical talent, his willingness to help, his unmistakable humor, and the honest, hardworking life he lived. His memory will remain with those who knew him and shared in his friendship.

Irmgard Irene Vega

Irmgard Irene Vega passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, in Temple, Texas. She was born on May 29, 1940, in Germany and lived a life centered on family, faith, and home.

Irmgard grew up in Germany. She and Siegfried Schirmer had four children before their marriage dissolved. In 1975, she met Joaquin Vega and moved to El Paso, Texas, beginning a new chapter in her life. A devoted mother and housewife, she gave her time and energy to caring for her family and creating a home filled with warmth, beauty, and meaning.

She was known for her strong spirit and unmistakable personality. Irmgard was outspoken and opinionated, and she always liked to know the latest family news. She loved being with her family and enjoyed outings together, whether that meant going to Applebee’s for her favorite wonton tacos or bringing home Taco Bell takeout. Fridays were especially meaningful to her when they were spent shopping in Austin with her son.

Irmgard had a deep appreciation for fashion and loved European name brands. She took pride in always being put together, and that same care was reflected in her home. Her home was her pride and joy, and she made every decoration count. She loved modern home décor, enjoyed rearranging her home, and made sure family photographs were displayed wherever she could place them. Her bookshelf consisted of the Danielle Steel. collection Her faith was also an important part of her life. She spent time with God in His word and attended The First Church of the Nazarene.

Above all, Irmgard loved her family. She is survived by her sons, Wolfgang Schirmer and Olaf Schirmer; her daughter, Birgit Cate; her sister, Marina Hoff; and her grandchildren, James Sellers, Jared Schirmer, Josef Schirme, Ray Lucero, and Jessica Lucero. Each of them was part of the family she cherished so deeply, and her love for them remained at the center of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Joaquin Vega; her son, Ralf Schirmer.

Irmgard Irene Vega will be remembered for her devotion to her children and grandchildren, her eye for style and beauty, her steadfast faith, and the lively presence she brought to family life. Her memory will remain a lasting blessing to those who knew and loved her.

Stephen Howard Morphis

Stephen Howard Morphis, 69, passed away unexpectedly on September 14, 2026, in Temple, Texas.

Born on August 14, 1957, Stephen lived a life centered on caring for others, both in his profession and in his family. He graduated from Rutherford High School and continued his education by earning a nursing degree from Golf Coast College in Panama City, Florida. That path led him into a career of meaningful service, and he worked for many years as an ICU nurse. His work reflected the compassion and steadiness that marked his life. Beyond nursing, he also worked on cars and was mechanically inclined, often using those skills to help others whenever he could.

Stephen was known as a loving father and as a devoted son. He cared for his mother until her passing, a reflection of his loyalty, tenderness, and deep sense of responsibility to those he loved. He was always striving to help others where he could, and that generous spirit remained a defining part of who he was. Among the things that mattered most to him, family stood above all else. He was most proud of his place within his family and was a proud father and grandfather.

He is survived by his three daughters, Marissa Cwalina, Brittany Morphis, and Chelsea Pasnick, who were a central source of pride and love in his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Philip “Craig” Morphis and Kenneth Morman. The love of his family and the bonds he shared with them were an enduring and important part of his life.

Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Morphis, and his mother, Shirley Morphis.

Cremation services have been entrusted to Young's Daughters Funeral Home & Bereavement Center, 4235 E. US Hwy 190, Temple, Texas 76501.

Stephen Howard Morphis will be remembered for his caring heart, his dedication to helping others, his skillful hands, and the love he gave to his family. His memory will remain with those who knew him and loved him.

Eva Yvonne Batemen

Eva Yvonne Batemen, born Eva Yvonne Moore, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at a nursing home in Temple. She was born on March 10, 1952, in Ada, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Batemen was a homemaker who found deep purpose in caring for her home and family. She loved being a mother to her children and was a devoted wife. Her life was centered on the people she loved, and she was known for the care and affection she extended to both family and friends.

She also found joy in the simple and meaningful things that made a house feel like home. She loved her plants and enjoyed collecting cherub angel statues and figurines. She had a big heart and expressed her vibrant personality through music, while also tending lovingly to her family and her dogs.

She is survived by her children, Cortini Damron and her husband Dennis, Cassandra Beckett, Serena Ellis, and Paul Ellis; and by her sister, Pay Sherfield. Those who knew Eva will remember her warmth, her devotion to those closest to her, and the love she poured into her family throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Moore; her mother, Lillian Moore; her husbands, David Holt and Michael Bateman; and her daughter, Jasmine Holt.

Eva Yvonne Bateman will be remembered with love for her generous heart, her devotion to her family, and the comfort and kindness she brought to those around her. Her memory will remain a lasting blessing to all who knew her.

Frances Sue Caraballo

January 05, 1950 – September 30, 2026

Frances Sue Caraballo, lovingly known as Sue, Momma and MawMaw, passed away on September 30, 2026 at the age of 76.

On January 05, 1950, Sue was born as the sixth child to Frank and Thelma Eldridge, in Lampasas, Texas. She grew up primarily in the central Texas area, and had been a resident of Temple since 1968. Sue graduated from the last class of the King’s Daughters Hospital Vocational Nursing Program in the mid-1980’s. Then spent several years as an LVN at King’s Daughters Hospital.

Sue was a strong woman with a big heart, a Texas soul, a soft spot for animals, a love for bluebonnets, and the #1 Dallas Cowboys Fan! Above all, she loved her family more than anything.

Her family was the center of her world, and she never needed a reason to show it. Sue was one of those people who could make family feel bigger than just a family tree. Sue was incredibly proud of and cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love wasn’t always wrapped up in perfect words or grand gestures. It was in simple, everyday things. The conversations, the laughter, checking in, and simply being there is where her love shined the brightest.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; sister June; all three of her brothers, James, Hugh, and Mike; and her first husband and father of her children, Charles Presley Sr.

Sue leaves behind her beloved husband of 18 years, David Caraballo; her four cats; and her four children: Charles Presley Jr. (Brandi) of Texas; David Presley of Louisiana; Allison Anderson (Brian) of California; and Matthew Presley of Louisiana.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Charles “Trey” Presley III (Brittaney) of Florida; Elizabeth Boyd (Ethan) of Germany; Savannah Leonard (Mason) of Louisiana; Shelby Anderson of Louisiana; and Sydney Anderson of Louisiana. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Axl Presley and Baylee Presley of Florida.

She will also be missed by her two sisters Doris and Shirley, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved as if they were her own.

So from here, we will carry Sue, Momma, MawMaw with us. In the bluebonnets blooming along a Texas backroad. In the sound of a Cowboys game playing loudly on the television. In the silly antics of a cat. In family stories told again and again. In the people she loved, and the generations that carry her legacy forward.

Our hearts ache that we didn’t get more time with her, but we are grateful that she did not have to endure a long goodbye. She left us quickly, surrounded by love, and that is a comfort we will carry with us.

Zachary Job Gilbert

Zachary Job Gilbert passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was born on August 9, 1997, in Tucson, Arizona. His passing brings deep sorrow to all who loved him, while his life remains a source of pride, love, and lasting memory.

Zachary Job Gilbert built a life marked by dedication, commitment, and heart. At 17, he joined the National Guard and later attended West Point and graduated in 2020. He later continued his service in the United States Army, becoming a Captain and serving as an infantry officer. During his military career, he was stationed at Fort Benning, Fort Hood, and Fort Campbell. His service reflected both discipline and courage, and those who knew him understood the seriousness with which he carried his responsibilities.

He graduated from Washington High School, where he also played on the football team. Outside of his work and service, Zachary enjoyed the things that brought people together and made a house feel like home. He loved video games, cooking, golf, and spending time at the shooting range. Sundays were especially meaningful to him, as they were often spent watching football and cheering on the Packers, the Chargers because of his wife, and the Hawkeyes of Iowa.

Some of Zachary Job Gilbert happiest memories were found in the life he built with his wife, Alexandria. Their story began in 2022, when they met online and began dating. Before his first deployment, the two shared an unforgettable trip to Hawaii, creating memories they would always treasure. Just four months after they began dating, Zachary Job Gilbert left for a nine-month deployment to Poland. Despite the distance, their bond continued to grow through love, devotion, and a shared hope for the future.

Zachary Job Gilbert proposed in Belmond, Iowa, on the Fourth of July, choosing a place close to his heart where he had grown up and asking Alexandria to marry him surrounded by his family.

They eloped on March 17, 2025, after moving to Georgia, and later celebrated their marriage with a beautiful wedding ceremony on September 5, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Texas. Their life together was filled with love, adventure, and dreams for the future, leaving Alexandria with memories of a life and love she will forever carry with her.

He also found joy in the companionship of his two beloved dogs, Rosie and Rambo, who were part of the home and life he cherished.

Zachary Job Gilbert is survived by his wife, Alexandria Gilbert; his parents, Jeff and Carol Gilbert; his brother, Joshua Gilbert; and his sister, Amelia Gilbert. He will be remembered with deep love by his family, who shared in his milestones, stood beside him in proud moments, and celebrated the life he built. The love between Zachary Job Gilbert and those closest to him will remain enduring and strong.

Preceded in death by one child.

He will be remembered for his service, his devotion to his family, and the happiness he found in everyday moments—on the golf course, in the kitchen, watching football on Sundays, and in the life he created with those he loved most. Zachary Job Gilbert leaves behind a memory that will be carried forward with affection, gratitude, and honor.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX.
