We know vaccine requirements can sometimes feel frustrating, so we wanted to explain why grooming shops require proof of rabies vaccines — and why some shops also require Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccines. 🐶✂️
When your pup comes to the salon, they may not directly play with other dogs, but they are still sharing the same environment, tools, air space, and surfaces. Just like kids in school or people at a salon, germs can spread easier in shared spaces.
🦠 Rabies vaccines are required by law in most places because rabies is fatal and can affect both animals and humans. Groomers work closely with pets every day, including nervous or scared dogs who may accidentally nip when stressed.
🐾 Bordetella (kennel cough) is similar to a doggy cold and spreads VERY easily anywhere dogs gather — grooming shops, boarding facilities, dog parks, daycare, vet offices, and even pet stores. While it usually isn’t life-threatening, it can make dogs miserable and spread quickly.
These policies are never meant to make life harder for pet parents. They’re there to help protect:✔️ Your dog✔️ Other clients’ dogs✔️ Groomers and staff✔️ Puppies, seniors, and immune-compromised pets
We love your dogs like they’re our own, and keeping the salon safe and healthy is one of the biggest parts of our job. ❤️
Thank you for understanding and helping us keep everyone happy, healthy, and fluff
