Thank you so much for highlighting the incredible work Duncan does! Service Dogs make such an incredible difference in their handlers lives, and it is my pleasure to help make that difference.

Small Correction: Duncan is a Service Dog, not a “therapy dog” as stated in the last section of the article. The difference is that Service Dogs are trained to perform tasks to help mitigate their handler’s disability (as stated by the ADA), and Therapy Dogs provide emotional support via their presence to individuals other than their handler. Their impact is similar, but roles and protections vastly different.

Gotta love the goofy puppy antics when you’re trying to train 😂

One thing I tell my clients often is that our goal is to create genuine enjoyment in the things we’re teaching these dogs. If they don’t enjoy it, they won’t want to do it 8hrs a day 5 days a week when they start working full time.

Little miss Moonshine rocked her socialization outing this morning! At this age the goal is to just get the puppy out into the world to see/hear/smell new things and practice Handler Engagement!

“Service Dog in Training” Poe practicing some important skills on neighborhood walk! All of these skills are important for a service dog to know and working them in different environments with different distractions is incredibly important.

Super proud of this team and the progress they’ve been making. “Heel” and impulse control is something Poe has struggled with in his adolescence, so I’m very proud of the progress they’ve made!

Introducing SRSDs newest client! Moonshine!

Moon is just starting her journey towards becoming a service dog. The next several months will be spent on socialization, handler engagement, and foundational obedience skills where she will learn what the world is, how to interact with it, and how to be a polite citizen in public spaces.

In honor of handed out bandanas, so Duncan got to be extra dressed up for work today.
