Summer in Texas! Don't we just love it? (or not so much?) Oh well, let's talk about the beautiful, loving, friendly dogs and cats at the Temple Animal Shelter (or any shelter near you). These sweet souls are NOT defective or damaged, they are not bad or misbehaved (some may be a little mischievous), they are just homeless and looking for a new family to love, and that's usually because a person let them down.

Please give these 8 fur babies a few minutes of your time, and even share them with others who may be able to give them the amazing life they truly deserve.

It is SO hot out there! No one wants to be out in the Texas heat when they can cuddle up with their new fur buddy in the air conditioned house and watch movies or binge on Netflix. Take a look at this precious faces and you're bound to find at least one to chill with you through the summer months (and through the rest of their lives).

Stay cool y'all - hydrate, stay in the shade (or better yet, inside the house), and be mindful of our furry family members during this nasty heat wave.

The good ol' U.S. of A. is officially 250 years old this week and we know what that means - fireworks, fire crackers, and other noisy and scary stuff for our pets. PLEASE, take a minute to make sure your pets are safe and secure over the next few days. Here are a few tips for a happy and safe Independence Day:

*Exercise your pet early in the day (a tired pet is usually calmer).
*Keep cats and dogs safely indoors before and during celebration activities (such as parties, fireworks, and Bar-B-Qs).
*Securely close windows, curtains, and gates.
*Play calming music, white noise, or TV programs to help drown out the scarier sounds.
*Prepare a quiet "safe place" with water, bedding, and favorite toys.
*Keep emergency veterinary and shelter phone numbers available.
***Make sure ID tags and microchip information are up to date and make sure your pet has a collar and tags on them.
*If your pet goes missing, search for them immediately and contact all shelters in your area (preferably in person) as soon as possible.

It's time for a friendly reminder about the Texas heat this time of year. It's getting well into the 90s and it won't be long before we see triple digits, so be sure to take care of our furry friends by providing them with plenty of water and a shady (or preferably air conditioned) spot to cool off. And please people, DO NOT leave your pets or your children in the car, even for a few minutes in this heat, it can become deadly much faster than you think.

Today is the Summer Solstice, which means nothing in Texas since we all know it's been pretty hot for awhile and will probably get worse before it gets better. But it does mean that this is the longest day of the year in Central Texas and the days will start getting a little shorter through the coming months. And THAT means longer nights to cuddle with your new bestie that you adopt from the Temple Animal Shelter! So, go find that special furry friend and bring them home and love them for the rest of their life!
