When you are working with a dog that has been abused and neglected, sometimes having another dog there to help is what’s needed. Charlie came to us with barbed wire around his ear and neck, Confinement syndrome, and a fear of EVERYTHING. We decided to see if he would come out of his shell with my service dog. He immediately started following Severus around. He soon started coming up to us, wanting to be petted. We took him to the vet and got all the barbed wire off. Along with a health check and shots. He then got groomed, to get all the mats off. We could then see the extent of his scars, scratches, sores, and so on. I couldn’t stop crying when I would think about what he had to of gone through to get all of them. At around a year of age, I couldn’t blame him for being terrified of everything but Severus. The more he was around Severus, the more friendly he got. He started eating from a bowl, not having to be syringe fed. He started taking treats, wanting lovings, and playing! Man! He loves a game of fetch! I think baseball is his favorite sport. As he loves to run after the ball when my son hits it. He now greets people, and lets them pet him. You can talk to him without him peeing himself. He really is coming out of his shell. While he still has high anxiety, which I can understand, he moves mountains everyday with what he does. You no longer have to have the light on for him to walk into a room. He doesn’t freak out when you turn off the lights anymore. He loves to come to his name. He will “leave it” when you drop something. He will “go to bed” when it’s bed time, and race you to the room, even when the lights are off. He doesn’t flinch at loud sounds anymore. And he has a curiosity about him, wanting to learn more. He is gaining weight. And becoming a GREAT boy. I will keep updating about him, as he goes on to learn more, before going to his new home. Then I will still keep updating on him, because he has a special place in my heart.
Show him some love, and meet Charlie The Poodle Who Survived!
