Thank you so much for your Google Review Mr and Mrs. Facer!!
We have a 5 month old Bull Terrier who is a ball of energy. Before training he had problems biting and nipping, anytime we would sit on the couch he would jump up on top of our heads, constantly getting into things and, could not relax. When he started getting aggressive with my MIL I knew we needed training ASAP. It was VERY important to me that I found the perfect trainer for Homer (especially since he is so high energy and excitable so he would need someone with lots of love and patience) I made an excel sheet so I could compare local trainers. I had 3 trainers that I like when I came across Leader of the Pack. Once I started reading the about us section on the website I deleted my excel sheet and told my husband that I had found our trainer. A few things that sold me were 1. Their mission statement “Creating a happy, healthy bond between you and your dog”. It sounds simple but as much as we loved Homer and he loved us, there was a lack of trust and respect in our relationship so that, spoke to me 2. They don't use chock/shock collars. We looked at all options, including training collars and as much as we did not want to use them, I feared that they may be our only solution to stop biting 3. I liked the idea of having a trainer come to our home because it would be less stress on Homer and they could give us recommendations on how we can create a better space for Homer. 4. The trainer, Wendy, is a Dog Behavioral Therapist and Trainer and has the expertise to evaluate Homer and get to the root of the problems rather than just trying to train the bad behavior away. 5. Wendy’s many certs made me feel like she wasn’t just talk. She was willing to put in the time/money to get each one of those, which I’m sure is not easy. I submitted a message on her website and a few hours later, Wendy & I were on the phone scheduling an appointment for the next day. We went with the Gold Program so our first session was 3 hours. The second she walked through the door Homer got excited and was all over her and bit her ankle, which she immediately corrected. Let me tell you, in the 3 months we had had Homer, I had NEVER seen him be submissive, but when she corrected him, he sat in front of her and waited for her to tell him he was a good boy. Myself, my husband and my in-laws looked at each other in awe. That first session was life-changing for us and most importantly for Homer. I won’t give Wendys tactics away, but I will say that everything I read on her website was accurate. Wendy is a strong woman who knows what she’s talking about and takes her job seriously so be ready to hear the truth, even if it’s not what you want to hear. She’s a straight shooter and gives much needed corrective feedback. My MIL didn’t love that Wendy told us to get rid of/move some plants and move things around the house to reduce temptations, but when she saw the difference it made, she was on board. If you listen and trust Wendy, she WILL help you! She trained us on how to take the reins and become the leader. Homer is not biting nearly as much (he’s still a teething puppy) and he’s so much happier! Now I know his behavior was because he was stressed. He needed us to take control and show him that as the leaders, we will take care of him, not the other way around. Now Homer is free to be the funny, loving, energetic puppy he deserves to be. We had our second session yesterday and it was so cute seeing how Homer absolutely loves Wendy! We’re working towards his Canine Good Citizen cert, as Wendy is a certified AKC evaluator and the test is included. When it came to training, we weren’t looking to go with the cheapest trainer because we knew this was an investment but we also had a budget because we aren’t scummy billionaires, hoarding wealth, but anyways, Wendy’s prices are great! For what you get, she is the best deal around. Also on that note, this is a locally owned small business. They aren’t owned by private equity (which is all over pet world). Leader of the Pack really is just Wendy out here providing an invaluable service to our community.
