I thought that I would have a little fun with this. An old employee recently asked about what fleshing machine to buy and why. So I am going to give my honest review on every machine that I have shaved on. BUT I WILL SAY BEFORE I GIVE MY OPINION I WILL SAY THAT ANY FLESHING MACHINE IN BETTER THAN NONE. These are in the order that I shaved on.
*Dakota 2- This was the first flesher that I have ever owned. It did the job. At the time I was only shaving 1 deer about every hour or so. The lid made me feel safe for when I was starting out. However, now It would just hinder speed. ⭐⭐
* Friendly flesher- This was the first machine that I bought multiple of to train employees on. I swore this was the best ever. Easy guard adjustments for learning and affordable. But as speed on shaving picked up the flesh would bog down the blade and motor as there was no place for shavings to go. ⭐⭐
*Reliable - This was a floor model. Heavy as hell. I never liked it but I hear the old timers loved it. ⭐
*Quebec (The original) Stud of a machine. Can really throw some flesh. Negatives was changing the blade. Took way too long. ⭐⭐⭐
* Rawhide taxidermy model. Loved this machine, top of the line. Original one had a lid and leaned foward like the old Dakotas at the time I liked the feel leaning on table. Now as I am older I may get a stiff back lol. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
*Rawhide Furrier model- When this machine was introduced to me it definitely looked intimidating. The "Willie" The best shaver that ever lived showed me the how to for everything in the fleshing world, I would never switch. Cons are, scary looking, wide open and not enclosed. But I think that turns into a pro not a con. Shavings rarely get clogged up. Tuning blade is quick and easy. BTW I am still shaving on my fur model that I bought used in the late 1900s. The only thing that I ever replace was upgraded to a 1hp motor and bearings for the arbor. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
*Quebec lite- I wasnt a fan because the arbor assembly was not precision , it was out of tune and wobbly. I have noticed a few people complain about this too. ⭐
* Dakota pro- When this first came out I thought that it looked game changing. Had precision guards kind of like the Friendly flesher that I liked. Until I shaved on it, at this time I am shaving a deer about every 5 minutes. The guards being too close to blade and flesh flying seem to clog the blade and bog the motor down. It did the job if I went slow. Not a fan of floor model, go tabletop if you have a choice. ⭐⭐⭐
* Eager Beaver- good machine, no problems except to buy more. There was a lull with them making them for some reason and could not buy another. I am not a fan of single anchor point on any arbor. But they do good. Tabletop over floor model.⭐⭐⭐
* Cape Master- I didnt shave too much on this machine but I did set one up for a guy and it was easy peasy and he got good fast using this machine. Great design with belt enclosed so flesh doesnt get caught on motor pulley. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
*Dakota IV (I think that is the smaller 10"?) Great concept but no. Not a fan. You can do the same thing on a 12" knife. ⭐
* Mini Flesher- I have had sooo many of these thing over the years and sold them all. I thought theyd be great on boar shields/ cape buff, etc, NAHHHH. Not a fan. ⭐
I know there are a few other machines out there but I had not had the chance to shave on. What do you like? What have you shaved on?
