🌟 Speaker Announcement: Jennifer Biggins at Sioux Purr Cats!
We are thrilled to announce that Jennifer Biggins will be joining us as a featured speaker at Sioux Purr Cats!

Jennifer is the owner of The Cat Tails Feline Grooming Spa & Hotel Suites (est. 2024) and Paws and Reflect Pet Grooming (est. 2008). With more than 20 years of grooming experience, she is dedicated to providing safe, compassionate, and specialized care for every pet she serves.

Recognizing a need in our region, Jennifer opened South Dakota’s first feline‑exclusive grooming salon and boarding suites—creating a space designed entirely around the comfort and wellbeing of cats. She has studied and groomed felines since 2005, graduating from the Paragon School of Pet Grooming in 2007. She has continued her education with the Professional Cat Groomers Association of America since 2013 and is currently training with the National Cat Groomers Institute to earn her Certified Feline Master Groomer designation.

You can hear Jennifer speak at Sioux Purr Cats on April 11th at the Sioux Falls Arena, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

We are honored to welcome Jennifer to Sioux Purr Cats and can’t wait for you to learn from someone who lives and breathes compassion every single day.

❤️🐾🙌🏼 Thank you to all that came out to support the Hastings and get your pets nails trimmed. It was a successful fundraiser. We have a lot to be proud of in this community. Proceeds have been dropped off for the family. Thank you again and wishing everyone a healthy, safe and happy New Year!

Update on Shelter Cat Illness

Testing has confirmed panleukopenia, a severe and highly contagious virus that affects the intestines and bone marrow in cats. It is spread through bodily fluids, f***s, and contaminated surfaces. Symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Despite best efforts, the mortality rate for unvaccinated kittens is often greater than 90%.

Through further investigation, we identified multiple intakes of unvaccinated cats from overpopulated households that may be associated with the positive findings.

In response, we have taken swift and strict action to protect the animals in our care and the community. Affected areas have been closed, enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols are in place, and all cats are being closely monitored. Our veterinary team continues to work diligently to limit any further spread.

A risk assessment has been completed for all cats. Low risk, vaccinated or non-exposed cats will be available for adoption on Saturday. Adopting them reduces the risk of transmission for the more vulnerable kittens.

During this time, staff will assist with cat handling during adoptions. We are not accepting owner surrenders or stray cats. If you find a stray, report it on 24petconnect.com, have it scanned for a microchip, and consider temporarily fostering while an owner is located.

While panleukopenia is a virus that many shelters across the country encounter, SFAHS has not experienced a known outbreak in over a decade. We urge our community to vaccinate their pets to prevent diseases.

Adopters: We will contact you if we believe your cat has been exposed. Please continue to monitor your cat, and if you see symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, contact your veterinarian.

We know this is difficult news, and we truly appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our community. Thank you for standing with us.
