🦎❤️ DID YOU KNOW? Red-Eyed Crocodile Skinks Are Amazing Parents!

One of the coolest things about Red-Eyed Crocodile Skinks (Tribolonotus gracilis) is their unusual parental behavior! Unlike many reptiles that lay eggs and move on, female crocodile skinks can stay with and actively care for their babies after they hatch. 🥹

👶 Mom stays close: Females may remain with the hatchlings and protect them, rather than immediately leaving them on their own.

🛡️ Protection matters: These little skinks are secretive, forest-dwelling reptiles, and mom's presence can help keep the babies safe in their humid tropical environment.

🏠 Baby skinks stay nearby: Hatchlings can remain around their mother for a period of time, making their family behavior especially fascinating compared with most reptiles.

🌿 They need the right environment: In captivity, crocodile skinks thrive with high humidity, appropriate temperatures, plenty of hiding places, and a naturalistic setup that allows them to feel secure.

And yes… the picture you're looking at is a mom with her babies! 🥰🦎

Come check out these incredible little reptiles at Mark’s Ark and see why crocodile skinks are such a unique species!
