Common Heart Diseases in Dogs

1. Mitral Valve Disease (MVD)

🐕 Most common heart disease in older small-breed dogs

Signs:

* Persistent cough
* Exercise intolerance
* Rapid breathing
* Fatigue
* Fainting episodes

Prevention:

* Annual veterinary heart check-ups
* Maintain ideal body weight
* Early diagnosis through auscultation and echocardiography

2. Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)

🐕 Common in large breeds such as Doberman, Great Dane, and Boxer

Signs:

* Weakness
* Reduced exercise capacity
* Irregular heartbeat
* Sudden collapse

Prevention:

* Balanced nutrition
* Regular cardiac screening in predisposed breeds
* Avoid obesity

3. Congenital Heart Defects

🐕 Present from birth

* Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
