Every patient has a story, and Dixie’s is one we’re so thankful to share.
Ten-year-old Dixie came to us with a severely bloated abdomen. After examining her, we discovered a very large mass and rushed her into surgery. During the procedure, Dr. Emily found an astonishing 8-pound mass attached to Dixie’s spleen. Her spleen and the mass were successfully removed, and Dixie recovered beautifully.
Because splenic masses are most often cancerous, we anxiously awaited the biopsy results. To our surprise and relief, Dixie’s mass was not cancer. It was a large hematoma caused by a tiny, flimsy wire fragment that had become embedded in her spleen, leading to bleeding over time.
Pictured here is Dixie at her two-week recheck, happy, healing, and feeling like herself again! She’s been begging Mom and Dad to let her get back outside to run and play, and we’re happy to say Dr. Emily has officially released her from cage confinement.
We’re so grateful to have been part of Dixie’s journey, and we hope she has many more happy, healthy years filled with running, playing, and making memories with her family. ❤️🐾
