Happy 15th birthday to my heart and soul. 💙

We all owe this dog a whole lot. Jack and Jill Dog Training wouldn’t be here without him. He’s the reason I started learning about dogs and what ultimately led me to pursue behavior work.

Thank you for seeing me through the past twelve years, Jack. You have been my most constant companion and motivator to keep going even when things felt their darkest. I am so happy that we’ve come through everything we have together and that we’ve been having our best years yet.

Here’s to as many more as you’ll give me, buddy.

💙

A 2020 study found that up to 80% of behavior cases involved some sort of painful condition.

Musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and dermatological conditions can all contribute to problem behaviors.

This is even further reasoning why we should not use punishment or harsh physical corrections and tools to address behavior issues. More likely than not, the dog is hurting. How unfair is it to punish them for being in pain?

Dog trainers: ever work with a dog who is afraid of car rides and find yourself wondering what to try next?

Helping dogs overcome their car feelings isn’t always as simple as pairing the car with treats. We need to understand what’s driving the fear, recognize what the dog needs, and make thoughtful decisions about how to progress.

In my upcoming webinar, I’m breaking down real cases to show you how I approach these challenges, make training plans, and adapt when things inevitably don’t go as planned.

We’ll focus on the why behind the training, so you can apply that reasoning to your own cases and not just walk away with another list of exercises.

Trainers, you've probably had a client say, "My dog is terrified of the car. What do I do?"

Maybe the dog refuses to get in. Maybe they panic when the door closes. Maybe they seem fine in the driveway but completely fall apart once the car starts moving.

You probably also have seen that "just countercondition the car" falls short.

In this webinar, I’ll walk you through the way I approach dogs with car-related fear and anxiety, using real cases and training footage to show how I assess the problem, make decisions, adjust my approach, and determine when a dog is ready to progress.

Here's what you'll learn:
🚗 How to assess what the dog is actually afraid of
🚗 How to determine a starting point for training
🚗 How to actually create positive associations with car travel
🚗 How to identify skill gaps and build them in a way that holds up under stress
🚗 How to modify the plan and troubleshoot setbacks

Over the two hours you'll see videos from several cases with discussion of what I'm seeing, why I made certain decisions, and how the plan changed as the dogs progressed.

There will be opportunities for real-time knowledge implementation as we work through scenarios together, as well as time for Q&A after the presentation.

You'll leave with a framework for approaching car anxiety cases, a better understanding of how to apply familiar learning theory concepts in a way that actually works, and a behind-the-scenes look at the reasoning that goes into real-world behavior modification.
