A Wire Fox Terrier wandering beside a busy road cannot comprehend just how much danger surrounds him.

All he understands is fear.

The sound of traffic is overwhelming.

Cars rush past him.

Every horn and sudden movement makes him more frightened.

And one panicked decision could have put him directly in the path of a vehicle.

Thankfully, a rescuer spotted the frightened dog and knew that chasing him was not the answer.

So they stayed calm.

They kept the traffic under control.

And most importantly, they gave the little Terrier time.

Instead of forcing him to move, they allowed him to slowly understand that someone was there to help.

At first, he was nervous.

Then he hesitated.

And finally, he allowed himself to be guided away from danger.

That patience may have saved his life.

Even a well-behaved dog can become unpredictable when frightened. A busy highway can turn every sound into a threat, causing a scared animal to run farther instead of toward safety.

Sometimes, the best rescue is simply giving an animal enough time to trust you.

The Wire Fox Terrier was safely removed from the roadway and brought somewhere secure.

Now, he has a chance to be reunited with the people who may already be searching desperately for him.

Rescues aren't always dramatic.

Sometimes, they're simply a frightened dog, a patient rescuer and a second chance.
