☀️🐴 When Is It Too Hot to Ride? USEF Guidelines to help you decide!

Summer heat can be tough on our horses and knowing when to ride or rest is essential. According to US Equestrian (USEF), the combined temperature and humidity (Heat Index) can help you determine the risk level:

🟢 Below 130 – Safe for most horses

🟡 130–150 – Use caution; monitor for signs of heat stress

🟠 150–180 – High risk; limit activity and provide extra cooling

🔴 Over 180 – Dangerous; postpone riding or turnouts

Use this simple formula:
Temperature (°F) + Humidity (%) = Heat Index

📌 Example: 85°F + 65% = 150 ➡️ Use caution!

💧 Make sure your horse has access to shade, water, and rest—and consider early morning or late evening rides when temps are cooler.

Belated Horse Shows in the Park, LLC recap!

• Vera Steiner and Ace of Spades stepped into their first 2’6 jumper division together and had a beautiful derby round

• Myah Rodriguez and Valentino put in confident rounds all weekend and continued to improve with every trip around the ring

• Fallon Badini and Harbor Boy had lovely equitation rounds and carried that confidence into a great derby performance

• Brooke Eddy and Bona Fide stepped into a smaller jumper division as a refresher after some time off, then finished the weekend with a fantastic derby ride

• Hailey McManamey and Valentino shined in their classes all weekend and came home with great results and confidence-boosting rides

• Sofia Clark and Liberty Grove made a great debut in the 3’ hunters together and ended the weekend with a successful derby round

We’re so proud of all of our riders and horses for a successful weekend and look forward to continuing the hard work at home before coming back even stronger at the next show 💪🏼💞
