Before heading into surgery, Elliot got some extra love and reassurance from his nurse, Cris! Elliot saw Dr. Mayne for a BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) surgery, a procedure designed to improve breathing in brachycephalic breeds.

BOAS can cause narrowed nostrils, an elongated soft palate, and other airway abnormalities that make it harder for dogs to breathe, especially during exercise, excitement, heat, or stress. Surgical correction can help improve airflow and, most importantly, quality of life.

This adorable rescue pup came to see Dr. Mayne for more than just her spay! Honey also had an inguinal hernia repaired during the same procedure, giving her the fresh start she deserves.

We’re always honored to help our rescue patients get healthy, comfortable, and ready for their next chapter. Just look at that sweet face! 🥹💗🍯

These radiographs show the results of a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) performed to treat a right capital physeal fracture.

An FHO removes the femoral head and neck, eliminating the painful bone on bone contact. Over time, the body forms a functional “false joint” of scar tissue and muscle, allowing patients to return to a comfortable, active life.

Rose looking extra beautiful before her MPL surgery ✨🩷

Medial patellar luxation (MPL) is a condition where the kneecap slips out of its normal groove on the inside of the knee. This can cause skipping, limping, pain, and over time may lead to arthritis if left untreated.

MPL surgery is designed to restore proper alignment of the kneecap by correcting the underlying anatomy, allowing it to track normally as the knee bends.

Mayhem came to us struggling with front limb lameness. An exam showed pain localized to the shoulder over the bicepital groove. Conservative management with regenerative medicine did not alleviate her symptoms.

Dr. Mayne performed a biceps tendon release using a nanoscope, a minimally invasive procedure that uses a tiny camera and specialized instruments to access the shoulder joint through small incisions. This technique allows for excellent visualization of the joint while minimizing tissue trauma and promoting a smoother recovery.

By releasing the damaged tendon, the procedure helps alleviate pain and restore comfortable limb function.

In this video, you’ll see Mayhem just before surgery, when she was barely using her affected front leg. The second clip was taken immediately after she recovered from anesthesia, and she was already comfortably bearing weight on the limb. While every patient’s recovery is unique and long-term healing still takes time, seeing that immediate improvement is always incredibly rewarding. 💜

Not every surgery starts in the operating room.

When Ali first came to see Dr. O’Connor, she had a perianal mass that was large, inflamed and ulcerated. By treating the mass with intralesional steroid injections first, we were able to reduce its size and allow the tissue to heal before surgery. A few weeks later, the mass was much smaller and ready for removal.

A little planning, a little patience, and a much happier Ali. ✨

Not your average surgery day. 🐒💜

Last weekend, our team had the privilege of joining the Dental Coalition for Conservation for our second mission at Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary. Working alongside an incredible group of dentists, veterinarians, technicians, and caregivers to provide dental care for 50 primate patients was an experience we won’t soon forget.

We’re grateful to the DCC, Jungle Friends, and everyone involved for the opportunity to contribute to the health and well-being of these remarkable animals. We look forward to continuing this partnership and supporting future missions.
