Four years ago vs. today! 🐾💙

The photo on the left shows Fig and Henri at their neuter procedures four years ago, and the photo on the right is these handsome boys at their annual dental cleanings last week!

It’s such a special part of our job to care for patients throughout their lives and watch them grow from playful puppies into the handsome boys they are today. 🥰 Our technician Caitlin had the pleasure of caring for both Fig and Henri during their procedures, then and now!

We’re so grateful to be a part of their medical care and to have the opportunity to watch them grow over the years. Here’s to many more healthy years with these two! 🐶💙

🐾 Digital Radiographs In-Hospital = Faster Answers for Your Pet! 🩻

Meet Sky, an adorable French Bulldog who came to see us after developing a limp. Because we have digital radiography available right here in the hospital, we were able to take orthopedic radiographs and get a closer look at what could be causing her discomfort.

Having digital radiographs in-house allows us to:
✨ Obtain detailed images quickly
✨ Evaluate bones and joints for injuries or abnormalities
✨ Help guide the next steps in your pet’s care
✨ Minimize delays when your pet needs answers

And we don’t stop there! Our radiographs can also be sent to a board-certified veterinary radiologist for an expert review. This gives our team an additional level of diagnostic support when needed.

We’re so glad we have this technology available to help pets like Sky receive the care she needed—right when she needed it. 💕🐶

🐾 Future Veterinarian in the Making! 🐾

We are so excited to have a wonderful 3rd-year veterinary student with us for her Small Companion Animal Clinical Rotation! 🐶🐱

She’s gaining valuable hands-on experience caring for our canine and feline patients, learning from our team, and putting her knowledge into practice.

We have no doubt that her passion, dedication, compassion, and eagerness to learn will take her far. We know she is going to make an amazing veterinarian! 👩‍⚕️🐾

We’re so happy to be part of her journey and can’t wait to see all the incredible things she accomplishes! 💕

💧🐱 Is Your Older Cat Drinking More Water?

If you have a senior cat who suddenly seems to be drinking a lot more water, don't assume that means they're well hydrated!

In older cats, increased thirst and urination can be important warning signs of underlying disease. Conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism can cause cats to drink and urinate more frequently.

🐾 Cats are experts at hiding illness, and sometimes increased thirst may be one of the first things you notice at home. Even if your cat seems happy and is eating normally, changes in drinking habits are worth discussing with your veterinarian.

Regular senior wellness exams and bloodwork can help detect problems earlier, when we may have more options to manage them and help your cat feel their best. ❤️

So if your older kitty is suddenly visiting the water bowl more often, don't just celebrate their "hydration"—let's find out why! 🐱💧

🐶💨 Flat-Faced Breeds & BOAS: Loud Breathing Is NOT Normal

“Of course they snore—they’re a Frenchie!”
“They’ve always breathed like that because they’re a Bulldog.”

We hear it all the time, but loud or noisy breathing is not simply a normal characteristic of brachycephalic breeds. It can be a symptom of Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS).

BOAS occurs when a dog’s anatomy makes it difficult for air to move normally through the upper airway. Signs can include:

• Loud or noisy breathing, even while resting
• Snoring or snorting while awake
• Exercise intolerance
• Difficulty breathing during excitement or activity
• Overheating easily
• Gagging or regurgitation
• Collapse or respiratory distress

🐾 The good news? Many dogs with BOAS can benefit from surgery. Procedures such as widening narrowed nostrils and shortening an elongated soft palate can improve airflow and make breathing easier. For appropriate patients, surgery can improve exercise tolerance, heat tolerance, sleep, and overall quality of life.

If you’re considering a French Bulldog, English Bulldog, Pug, Boston Terrier, Shih Tzu, or another brachycephalic breed, it’s important to understand that their anatomy can put them at increased risk for airway disease and that some dogs may require medical or surgical intervention.

A flat face may be part of the breed standard—but struggling to breathe shouldn’t be. ❤️

If your dog is consistently loud when breathing, talk with your veterinarian about a BOAS evaluation. Early recognition can make a meaningful difference.

🐾 Senior Dogs Deserve Extra Love & Care! 💙

Meet Max, showing us that getting older doesn't mean slowing down on the tongue-out smiles! 😍🐶👅

As our dogs age, their healthcare needs change. Regular senior wellness exams are important for catching subtle changes before they become bigger problems. Bloodwork, dental evaluations, weight monitoring, arthritis assessments, and screening for age-related conditions can all help keep your best friend feeling their best.

🐾 Some signs of aging aren't "just getting old." Changes in drinking or urination, appetite, weight, mobility, behavior, energy, or breathing should always be discussed with your veterinarian.

With proactive care, we can help our senior pets enjoy more happy, healthy, tail-wagging years! ❤️
