Here are 3 quick tips to regain control on your daily walks:

• Stop when they pull: The moment the leash gets tight, freeze like a statue. Don't pull back—just stop moving. When your dog turns around to look at you and slack returns to the leash, praise them and start walking again. This teaches them that pulling gets them nowhere!

• Reward the "sweet spot": Keep treats in your pocket and reward your pup right next to your hip whenever they are walking nicely beside you. Make being close to you the most rewarding place to be!

• Avoid retractable leashes: Flexi-leashes actually train your dog to pull because they teach them that applying pressure gets them more freedom. Stick to a standard 6-foot nylon or leather leash.
