Our this week is on Rowdy! Rowdy is a basset hound/pitbull mix who is learning how to feel differently about dogs, bikes, and other triggers on walks.

Before we get into any exposure work, though, we get our walk foundations solid. Rowdy first is working on mastering walking on a loose leash, and he and his mom are crushing it!! This is a skill often taken for granted, but it is actually quite complex to teach!! Go Team Rowdy!!

Happy ! Today’s tip is that how you feel influences your behavior.

Well, duh.

At least when you put it that way. But I cannot count the number of times behavior problems have ultimately been rooted in a medical issue. A change in an animal’s behavior is often the first “symptom” we see of an illness. But if the behavior issue has been present from the beginning, it can be much harder to detect.

Roadrunner was rescued quite literally from the road. Her rescue contacted me after her experienced fosters were struggling to help her overcome her extreme fear and some serious aggression around food. Roadrunner not only lunged and bit the hands as they fed her, but she attacked greens as they were dropped to her and grunted while she ate.

After our first consultation, Roadrunner’s fosters reached out and let me know we might have to reschedule our appointment as Roadrunner had been diagnosed with a seriously decayed tooth and pneumonia. They had noticed her excitement to eat followed up by rolling pellets around in her mouth and not actually eating them…classic symptoms of mouth pain.

When we met for our second appointment this week, I started our zoom call, greeted the fosters, and Roadrunner hopped over, jumped up in between them and began pestering them for attention and love!

All of her behavior issues were gone. We assumed Roadrunner’s behavior was due to her past, but it turns out, she just felt like complete garbage! No wonder she had such conflicted feelings about eating and didn’t want to be touched!!

Often, behavior problems from physiological issues don’t look like they go together. This is why we always ask about your pet’s medical history, last trip to the vet, and when and how the behavior issues present. Have you ever noticed your pet’s behavior change when they weren’t feeling well?

Cutest POV ever!!

Seriously, bunnies are SO SMART, which is why we’ve dedicated so much of our work to helping strengthen the bond between buns and their people with trick training.

Too many times we’ve heard “Train bunnies? You must have a lot of time on your hands…”

Firstly, anyone who has taken our classes knows that the best training sessions are short and sweet!

Secondly, an investment in your relationship with your bunny is not something you do with your free time. Not any more than feeding and cleaning up after them is a “free time” activity. Mental and emotional health is just as crucial as our basic care. Training ultimately leads to healthier buns who are less stressed!

We’ll be having a live Q&A this Friday, July 31, at 7:30 pm EST. We want to tell you all about our newest Trick of the Month membership, which will begin registration the following day. Ask your questions about ANY of our courses, and get them answered!! Then, pick the option that is perfect for you!!

DM us with your email to be added to the list so you get the link for Friday’s Q&A. We look forward to seeing you there!!

Our this week has to be on our hardworking TrickBun I graduates!!

Over the last 6 weeks, students in our TrickBun I group class have SMASHED their trick goals! Their bunnies have learned a variety of new things, and we've seen positive impacts on the relationships between the humans and their bunnies! Here are a few accomplishments:

-Melissa and Izzy have finally achieved their goal of earning their Novice Trick title, something they've been working on for years!

-Carly has seen a boost in Millie's confidence and affiliative behavior towards her, including leaning on her for pets!!

-Meg has enjoyed success with her new bunny Wren's enthusiasm for learning tricks, and they've cruised through all of their trick goals!

-Donna has gotten to experience the change in Arlo from being nervous about our weekly meetings to having no trouble being himself while the computer is on and in the background!

-Egg has noted that Figgy has become much more confident in her body since learning our jumping tricks! Before, she never really jumped up, but she's been exploring her area from new heights after learning a few jump tricks!

Our group classes are such an amazing place for learning how to communicate with your bun, and the reality is, we just don't schedule them often enough! That's what we seek to fix with our new Trick of the Month membership! Monthly meetings with bunny lovers who have a passion for learning to enhance their bond through tricks: what membership is better than that?

DM or email us to join-registration will close at the beginning of August and won't reopen until December!

Happy !! Today, we are excited to announce our newest offering: Trick of the Month!!

Trick training can open such amazing opportunities when it comes to relationship building because it creates better understanding. Better understanding of your bunny’s behavior, feelings, and communication for you. Better understanding of your behavior, habits, and patterns of interaction for your bunny. Trick training is just the beginning. And our students always want to know what’s next.

That’s why we’ve created a new membership: Trick of the Month! This membership is an opportunity to take a closer look at the communication that takes place between rabbits and humans during training. Each month, we’ll cover a new trick, and you’ll watch me train it-step by step. You’ll learn about how I communicate with Tula when she is nervous, intimidated, frustrated, or just plain overexcited while learning!!

Each month, we’ll have 2 live classes taught over Zoom. The first will be a structured class covering a trick and going over the training process Tula and I went through. The second is less structured-more office hour/Q&A type style. Anything goes, including submitting tricks, asking training questions, or general behavior questions. You’ll also have access to an exclusive membership community where we can keep the conversation going!!

If you’ve ever wanted to more deeply understand your rabbit-this membership is for you!!

Scroll to check out our options! Registration officially opens August 1, and our first class is on August 12 at 7:30 pm EST. DM or email us to register!!

Always seeking to provide the best for your pets!! Last weekend, I took a First Aid/CPR course offered at . It was something I'd been wanting to do for a while, so glad to finally be certified!! I hope that I never NEED to use this knowledge during a lesson, but glad that to have it in the event I do!
