What began with a deep love for this breed has grown into a larger mission: to support both *pets and their people* in living healthier, more intentional lives. I am a certified pet nutritionist, pet wellness educator, ethical breeder, and holistic health advocate. 🛁🐾 Miss Libby had her very first grooming session today! 🐾🛁

Oakleigh was up first, and then it was time for Libby’s big debut! Since this was her very first grooming experience, we decided to have her groomed alongside her mama, Miss Rayna. ❤️

Having Mom right there gave Libby a familiar, comforting presence while she experienced all the new sights, sounds, smells, and handling that come with grooming. Little experiences like this are such an important part of helping puppies build confidence. 🥰

According to Michelle at Family Tails Mobile Grooming, everyone did great…although apparently Oakleigh was a little antsy today! 😂

And Libby’s review of her first spa day?

She came inside, immediately curled up at my feet, and fell sound asleep. 💤😂

Apparently being beautiful is exhausting work! 💜🐾

🐾 Teaching Independence Starts Young

Miss Libby is growing up in a house full of other dogs and humans who absolutely adore her. ❤️ But one of the most important things I can teach her is that she doesn’t need us beside her every minute to feel safe.

So even at this young age, we practice independence.

I’ll set her up in a safe, puppy-proofed area with safe toys and step away, even if it’s only for a few minutes. I use a remote camera so I can quietly watch her without her knowing I’m there.

Those few minutes matter.

She gets time away from me.
She gets time away from the other dogs.
She learns how to entertain herself.
And most importantly, she learns that being alone is safe and I always come back. ❤️

We gradually build on that by incorporating crate time with me out of sight and eventually spending short periods in a separate room.

I don’t wait until I need to leave her alone to teach her how to handle it. I want being alone to be a normal part of life long before it becomes necessary.

Building independence early can help puppies develop confidence and healthy coping skills and may reduce the risk of separation-related problems later.

Start small. Keep it positive. Build gradually. 🐾

🐾 Miss Libby is settling into Mom’s work routine! 💻❤️

I will admit…she can be a tiny bit distracting. Apparently belly rubs are an urgent matter that should take priority over whatever is happening on my computer. 😂

But overall, she is doing incredibly well! During the workday, Libby spends time relaxing on a bed beside me, playing with her toys, and of course taking plenty of potty breaks. When it’s time for a real nap, she goes into her crate right here in my office.

And that consistency is already paying off. 🙌

At night, she’s sleeping about 7 hours straight. In the morning, we immediately head outside to potty, then breakfast, another potty trip, and usually…back down for a nap. 💤

Puppies really do thrive on predictable routines. Eat. Potty. Play. Potty. Rest. Repeat. 🐾

It doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to be consistent.

And Miss Libby is catching on beautifully. ❤️

Now if we could just convince her that belly rubs are not part of Mom’s official job description… 😂

🚨🐾 SURPRISE INSPECTION AT MLDH!

As an employer operating in such a high-risk environment, we are occasionally subject to unannounced inspections to make sure everything is safe, functioning properly and up to workplace standards. 😂

Today’s Safety & Quality Inspection was conducted by none other than our temporary security specialist, Miss Bella.

And let me tell you—this inspector was THOROUGH! 🔎🐾

Every corner was investigated.
Every piece of equipment was carefully examined.
Nothing escaped the sniff test. 👃
Quality standards were verified. ✅
Potential safety hazards were investigated. ✅

Thankfully, after a very extensive inspection, Bella appears satisfied that the MLDH team is working in a safe, quality-controlled environment. 😂

Although I’m pretty sure she’ll be conducting random follow-up inspections throughout her stay…just to keep management on its toes! 👀🤣

🚨🐾 Apparently the MLDH staff needed backup! 😂

Our regular crew must not be keeping things under control, because this week we had to bring in a temporary security specialist—Miss Bella! 🤣

Bella takes her assignment VERY seriously. She carefully watches EVERYTHING going on around her. 👀 Nothing escapes her attention, and when the situation calls for it, she’s ready to move into action!

🔎 Assess the situation
🚨 Respond when necessary
😴 Resume surveillance

She may only be a temporary employee, but so far her performance review is looking pretty darn good. 😂❤️

🐾 FIVE WEEKS OLD
Sadie & Chance’s Little Trio! 🐾

How in the world are these three already FIVE weeks old?! ❤️ Every week they change so much, and now their individual personalities are really starting to shine. This is one of my favorite stages because you begin to see those little traits that make each puppy uniquely them.

✨ Grace-The Adventurer
Grace is our little trailblazer! She’s usually the first one out of the pen when it’s time to play and the first to investigate anything new. New bed? She’s checking it out. New blanket? She’s on it. New toy? Better believe Grace needs to inspect it first! 😂 She is curious, confident, and ready to see what the world has to offer.

💕 Faith — The Thoughtful One
Faith is perfectly happy letting Grace conduct the initial safety inspection. 😂 She tends to hang back for a moment, watch what her sister does, and then decide, “Okay, looks safe, I’m coming!” She’s a wonderful little snuggler, but don’t mistake that sweetness for quiet… Faith can definitely be the most vocal of the three. Apparently Mama Sadie made sure somebody inherited that trait! 😂

💙 Celebration — The Cuddle Bug
And then there’s our sweet boy Celebration. Mild-mannered, absolutely adorable, and currently the biggest cuddler of the bunch. ❤️ He has mastered the puppy lifestyle: play hard, rest well, repeat! When playtime is over, Celebration is more than happy to settle in for some serious snuggling.

Three puppies. Three very different little personalities. And ALL THREE getting cuter by the day! 🥰

Sadie and Chance certainly created one precious trio, and I have a feeling the next few weeks are going to be a whole lot of fun as these personalities continue to develop.

😂 Apparently UV monitoring is far too important to trust to just ONE dachshund!

☀️🐾 UV Monitoring Department: FULLY STAFFED 😂

Some jobs are simply too important for one dachshund.

Today’s crew has assembled at the official MLDH UV Monitoring Station to carefully assess sunshine levels, warmth, breeze conditions…and whether anyone might possibly be eating something without sharing. 👀😂

As you can see, this requires intense concentration.

☀️ Sunshine monitored
👃 Air thoroughly sniffed
👀 Yard under surveillance
😴 Eyes occasionally closed for…ummm…advanced UV testing

And yes, apparently it takes an entire committee to do this job properly! 🤣

🐾 From meeting the big crew…to meeting the BIG dog! 😂💜

Miss Libby’s introductions continued today, and this time it was time to meet Oakleigh! 🐶

After all the excitement of meeting the girls, exploring her new surroundings, and taking in a whole lot of “firsts,” Libby was ready for a nap. She went into the crate for the first time and did spectacularly! 🙌

One of the biggest keys to successful crate training is timing. A puppy who has had a chance to play, explore, potty, and get appropriately tired is much more likely to settle. I also like to create a cozy, cave-like environment so the crate feels like a safe little den—a place to rest rather than somewhere they’re being sent away.

She woke up refreshed and ready for her next adventure…

Meeting the BIG dog! 😂

And as you can see, Oakleigh and Libby did wonderfully together. 💕 One more successful introduction and one more step toward Libby becoming an official member of the crew!
