Beating the heat and getting the dogs out everyday has meant early mornings! I can’t complain though, we’re all enjoying the small window of somewhat “cooler” temps. It’s wild when 90° has become a cool morning 😅. It’s all relative right?! We are getting a cool front today of 100° weather but supposed to go up to 107° again tomorrow. We will surely make the most of today!
NWOK is like a tinder box, we are praying for rain 🙌🏻. Lord we know you know we need it, but that doesn’t keep us from asking. Please rain down upon us! In Jesus name, Amen!

My kids asked how many pics of the dogs I have. I said, I don’t know, but enough to remember. There were times we were so tired, without the pictures, we surely would have forgotten the details in the fog. Man, times got rough there and I didn’t know how we’d make it through. But the goal was never perfection. It was to build a life that the kids would always remember. To show them that grit, resilience and faith are all you need. The dogs really have taught them what it means when you show up everyday, that each day builds on the last. Jolene and Bruiser are older than our youngest two, and now the kids are old enough to help take care of them. It’s such a full circle moment. It’s incredible we’ve been able to stick it out. That we’ve been able to hold onto the dream through the toughest years we’ve experienced. Boy are we all blessed to be here, on this farm, doing life together. Give your loved ones & your pups some love, you’re their whole lives.

I laughed so hard at these pics 😂 and his zoomies as they were being had. We’re supposed to be a bit cooler today and highs are 104° instead of 107°, we’ll take it. It’s 80° this morning and it feels like a gift from the good Lord.
We’ve had a lot of wildlife coming up in the yard, I think they’re in search of water. I have multiple water stations set up. But, I set up a water spot in the back of the property and I’m hoping that’ll give wildlife a safe spot to water. Coming into the yard is not a safe spot 😅.
Stay cool, hydrated, and grateful y’all, rain will come 🙌🏻.

I don’t know about y’all, but Oklahomans are fighting for their lives in this heat 😅. It’s been too dang hot, for to dang long. The dogs still want to go. They’re getting awfully restless about 6pm. It’s a long stretch for them to go 12 hours a day on easy mode. It’s been early mornings and late nights and not much in between.
Aldi did go on an early morning mountain hike and did great. And everyone has been doing great given the temperatures and that they are a breed better suited for colder weather. I can’t complain when they’re holding their own (well supported) through extended heat waves.

We got a sleepy girl. Aldi worked a full shift, all night, loose. She did great. Looks like she worked hard as she was passed out for the afternoon 😅. I’d really like to get the girls to the point of working all night loose, without traveling too far. Aldi can be a traveler, but the less backup, the stickier she stays. She has brain as well as braun, she knows where her backup is. If everyone else is tethered, she keeps a closer range. If she’s got loose backup, she’s leading a hunting party. Instead, we want her holding the perimeter. The girls are more likely to travel far and wide in pursuit, while the boys are more likely to stick back and guard the perimeter. It’s important to know how each of your dogs work, their strong points and their “weaker” points. Good work Aldi Bear.

We gave Jolene and Bruiser bath/ACV rinses to help beat the heat. As I was washing B, my oldest took some pics of J. I just love seeing the dogs through her eyes. I love hearing her speak sweet words over them. Reagan remembers Jolene at her fiercest, and it’s such a pleasure to see her love Jolene in retirement.
It felt really nice, the cold well water, a light breeze, and the shade of a good tree. What more could a gal want?

Airedales have a long and rich history of laying out all threats, the kind on 2 legs, on 4 legs, and on wings. These dogs protect their kids/their family with their life, and they’re eager to do so. If the kids are at play, you can bet there’s 1 to 4 loose Airedales watching their every move. Will you be able to pick out where they’re watching from? Not always, but you can bet they know exactly where you are, and they already have a plan, should they need it. What’s that old saying? Can you cross the pasture in 30 seconds because they’re across it in 29 seconds …
I know for a fact, I could never outrun them. Let alone, could I for-see their engagement strategy. All I know is they’re coming, and hells coming with them. We may be a little crazy for the amount of dog power we have, but we sure sleep well at night.

I added Dax in as well. He doesn’t have the power of the dales, but that pup would fight a bear for his kids.

This video probably doesn’t look like much. However, this type of play is exactly what gets them through when it matters. The chaser gets more strategic and the one chased gets bolder, and more sure of their moves. Val ran through two traps Aldi and Omen set up. In the first trap you can see Omen running Val straight into a waiting Aldi. Aldi throws down her shoulder to take our Val’s front legs, but Val recovers and plows through. Then Aldi and Omen squeeze Val into a tunnel/shoot move. Covering both flanks they attempt to block escape routes. Most animals try to keep running through which gives the perfect opportunity for the dales to grab both sides of the neck/or one grab the back of the neck while the other takes out the legs. Val threw on the brakes and double backed outta there. Great practice all around! I could watch them all day!
