Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Team Helps Locate Missing Endangered Person after Hurricane Isaias! Dep. Devin Abernethy and K9 Nexus got their second find when they responded to help locate a missing endangered person on 10/11/26. The North Carolina Bloodhound Team used The SEKR Scent Evidence Vacuum to collect a scent article and trailed it from a residence to a swampy area. High winds and washout conditions from 30 hours of heavy rain due to Hurricane Isaias couldn’t stop K9 Nexus who gave a great proximity alert 30 ft. from the target.

“Scent discriminate K9 trailing allows K9 teams to have successful search deployments even in severe environmental conditions. Dep. Abernethy’s use of The SEKR to collect an uncontaminated scent article provided the best target odor for Nexus to find the missing person fast and bring them home safe,” stated SEK9 CEO Paul Coley.
