Arcadia Police Dept. Bloodhound Team Confirms Trail of Criminal Suspect! Ofc. Dylan Morrill and K9 Kopper were called to help Glendora PD determine the trail of a suspect so that investigators could look for potential evidence in the case. Ofc. Morrill and Kopper were called in 4 hours after the suspect had been located on 8/19/26. Ofc. Morrill collected a scent article and deployed K9 Kopper from the scene and trailed to where the victim was ultimately located by the Fire Department a half mile away.

“Confirming the direction of travel in a criminal case is vital to helping investigators gather evidence. While K9 Kopper can help locate missing persons, he can also keep the community safe by helping to solve crimes,” stated Scent Evidence K9 CEO, Paul Coley.

We are sad to hear of K9 Star's passing. Star shined bright and Scent Evidence K9 was honored to work and train with her and handler Cpl. Nick Cooper until she retired in Nov. 2025. Star had many successful K9 deployments in her career, saved many lives, and kept the St. Johns community safe. Here are the words from our Bringing The Lost Home Program partners St. Johns County Sheriff's Office when she retired.

𝗞𝟵 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 used her ability to track and locate missing, endangered, and wanted people around St. Johns County for seven years. She assisted her handler, Cpl. Nick Cooper, during 146 deployments, locating 44 missing/endangered people, and 13 criminal suspects.
K9 Star's first successful deployment was locating a missing child in Flagler County. Cpl. Cooper says he and Star dedicated their partnership to mastering the manhunting process to bring every missing person home to their loved ones.

We had another fabulous week in northern Wisconsin. We started with advanced Scent Discriminate K9 training with Chief Thomas McGeshick and K9 Cleo of the Sokaogon Chippewa Community Police Dept. and topped off the week with Bringing The Lost Home presentations with our Forest County Potawatomi partners at the Rejuvenating Tribal Communities Conference in Green Bay. Conference attendees learned how Scent Kits can help protect and prepare those at risk of wandering before a missing person event occurs. Scent discriminate Bloodhound K9 Cleo was super proud of her handler Chief McGeshick when he was presented with his Master Handler Certificate for multiple K9 trailing locations.

The scent discriminate K9 trailing seminar and resource awareness training are part of a federal grant to enhance the Department’s K9 search capabilities to locate missing and wandering people. In 2024, The Sokaogon Chippewa Community Police Dept. was awarded The Kevin and Avonte Program: Reducing Injury and Death of Missing Individuals with Dementia and Developmental Disabilities grant. The grant provides Scent Discriminate K9 Trailing and Response Protocol training to K9 Teams and first responders. The grant also implements a highly successful Scent Kit and community awareness program for people with Alzheimer’s Disease and autism who are at high risk of wandering. K9 Tango Helps Locate Suspect in North Carolina for Second Confirmed Trail in August! Sgt. Jonathan Smith and K9 Tango of Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office responded to help locate a suspect in a possible stolen vehicle/disturbance on scene call on 8-23-26. Sgt. Smith was given the description of the suspect and had previously seen him about a mile away from the scene. Smith went to the place where the suspect was last seen and deployed K9 Tango. Tango trailed down several streets and began circling a yard. 2 stray dogs ran up and began barking at K9 Tango. Sgt. Smith was pulling Tango back from the stray dogs when a Deputy advised they had located the suspect directly behind K9 Tango’s trail.

“Sgt. Smith and K9 Tango’s scent discriminate K9 trailing helped to place search resources in the right area for a quick location of the subject,” stated Scent Evidence K9 CEO Paul Coley.

Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office K9 Team Uses SEKR Vacuum to Locate Assault Suspect! Dep. Philip Horner and K9 Jax responded on 8/19/26 to help locate an assault suspect who also had an active warrant. Dep. Horner used The SEKR Scent Evidence Vacuum to collect a scent article at the scene and deployed K9 Jax from a dirt road where the suspect was last seen by another deputy. K9 Jax trailed the scent down the dirt road then turned into the woods. The North Carolina K9 Team continued trailing to a creek bed when K9 Jax lifted his head and began to show proximity behavior. They located the suspect in the woods with his girlfriend actively hiding from deputies. The suspect and his girlfriend were both taken into custody for active warrants.
