Earlier this week, our Tally Spay team spent the morning at the City of Tallahassee - Animal Service Center. We learned more about their volunteer and foster programs, toured the dog and cat adoption areas, watched playgroups, and spent time with the veterinary team and animal control staff.

Seeing the shelter firsthand reinforced the “why” behind what we do. The shelter and local rescues are full, and one of the most important ways we can help is by preventing unwanted litters and reducing the number of animals entering the shelter system.

Since opening in 2021, Tally Spay has performed more than 18,000 spay/neuter surgeries — including more than 3,000 this year alone. Each surgery helps prevent future shelter intakes and gives animals already waiting for homes a better chance.

The need is still great, but together, we are making a difference. We’re proud to be part of a community working toward a future where fewer animals need shelter in the first place. ❤️🐾

We’ll have some awesome shelter pups on-site, with many more dogs and cats at the shelter waiting for their forever homes. 💙

This week, 17 community cats were spayed and neutered at the always amazing Tally Spay

That means 17 cats who will no longer contribute to the cycle of unwanted litters, helping create a healthier future for both cats and our community.

One of those cats, Gracie, reminded us that spay surgery can be lifesaving in more ways than one.

When she arrived for what we thought would be a routine spay, they discovered she was suffering from pyometra, a severe infection of the uterus. Pyometra causes the uterus to fill with pus and bacteria, and without emergency surgery, it can lead to sepsis, organ failure, and death.

Because Gracie was spayed when she was, her infected uterus was removed before the infection could take her life.

The best part? She’s already feeling so much better 💜

Spaying and neutering doesn’t just prevent kittens. Sometimes, it saves the life of the cat already in front of us.

Our Snip & Chip June Promotion was a success! To help keep dogs and cats out of the shelter, we are proud to announce that we microchipped 334 animals and completed 231 spay/neuter surgeries - all for FREE during this promotion! The microchips were covered through our Animal Shelter Foundation and the surgeries were covered through a grant from Florida Animal Friend. While the promotion has ended, you can still make an appointment for AFFORDABLE spay/neuter surgery and a microchip.
