Dear Clients:

While we seem to have been spared the worst of Hurricane Isaias, we are taking some precautions for the safety of our staff and clients.

We will be open as usual this afternoon. However, we will be operating on a limited crew so we have limited availability to see any pets that do not already have scheduled appointments.

The worst should be over tonight; however, we will open an hour late tomorrow so staff and clients do not have to drive before it is fully light outside, and no one risks encountering a fallen tree or other hazard in the dark.

Barring something unforeseen we will be back to a normal schedule after that!

Stay safe and dry everyone!

🐾Pets of the Week: Cannoli and Tiramisu🐾
For this week’s column, meet two adorable rabbits, Cannoli and Tiramisu! Cannoli is a 6-month-old lion-head rabbit who has been enjoying her life in her new home for the past 2 months. When she is not busy exploring the house, Cannoli loves to spend her time scaring her kitty cousins and chasing Tiramisu along the fence that keeps them separated while they are getting to know one another. Cannoli is working on bonding with Tiramisu so they can chase the kitties together one day.

Tiramisu, Cannoli’s new sister, is an 8-month-old Netherland dwarf rabbit who was found outside by her previous owner. While these two have only been sisters for 2 months, they are still getting used to one another and will hopefully be the best of friends someday soon!

🐾Pet of the Week: Jack🐾
For this week’s feature, meet Jack! Jack is a handsome black cat who was found living outside in his neighborhood after his previous owners abandoned him. Jack wasn’t on the streets for long. After his new owner spotted him, she quickly scooped him up and gave him a loving home.

Nowadays, Jack is a lovable house jaguar who loves to follow his mom around while meowing about everything under the sun, chatting about the things he finds important: most likely his favorite catnip toys, heart blanket, beds that are a little too small, and precarious napping spots. Jack loves his time with his mom more than anything—he would hate to miss even a single minute. He tucks her into bed every night and wakes her up with a face full of whiskers and meows.

At Paws & Claws, we understand that moving can be hard, and it often comes with difficult decisions. While Jack’s story has a happy ending, we want to discourage pet abandonment. Letting a pet go is often the last thing a pet owner wants to do, but there is always another option rather than letting them go outside. Surrendering a pet you are no longer able to provide a home for to a local rescue or shelter gives them another chance at life and ensures they will be taken care of for as long as possible.
