Join us for a birthday bash monster mash of elephant-sized proportions on Saturday, October 24, as we celebrate the FOURTH birthday of our miracle Yaad and Tukada!

We have a giant birthday card for guests to sign down front at the Membership Desk.

The birthday boys will receive special birthday enrichment at noon with their herd, followed by a creature chat with the experts who have cared for them since their historic birth at the Helga Beck Asian Elephant Preserve.

This , remember to slow down and appreciate the little things!

Sloths are known for being slow, but this is because they eat a very specific diet of low nutritional leaves, stems, buds, and some fruit that can sometimes take an entire month to digest! Moving slowly (and sleeping upwards of 15 hours a day) helps them conserve energy.

Did you know that each strand of a sloth’s fur has grooves that collect algae? This gives them a greenish tint, especially in the wet season!

The first shipment of winter hay arrived at the Zakhyn Us Wild Camel Breeding and Research Center just a few days ago. During the harsh winter months in the Gobi Desert, the center provides a safe and protected environment where Wild Camels can receive reliable food supplies while their health and reproductive condition are closely monitored throughout the breeding season. This care is especially critical for pregnant females expected to give birth in the coming spring, as adequate nutrition and proper care help support healthy pregnancies, successful births, and improved calf survival. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Rosamond Gifford Zoo, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens, The Ta**us Foundation, and our many generous private donors for their invaluable support in making this possible.

Did you know that Zoo Boo is FREE with your zoo MEMBERSHIP, or included with PAID ADMISSION – Children (2 and under) free, Youth (3-17) $5, Adult (18-61) $9, Seniors (62+) $5. There is no extra ticket purchase necessary! As always, Veterans/Active Military/Active Military spouses and up to three family members receive FREE admission. Zoo Boo is for all ages, and runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

EVERYONE STAY CALM we have footage of giant spotted hermit crab Eugene as a BABY!

Young crabs molt frequently to support their rapid growth rate, but as adults that rate drops to around once every 12 to 18 months. One threat facing these cool crustaceans is shell scarcity. It is becoming harder and harder for crabs to find suitable homes as they grow because humans collect shells, especially larger intact shells from beaches as souvenirs.

As an AZA-Accredited zoo, It is our goal to host fun, family-friendly and educational events, but never at the expense of our animals. During events with live music or a DJ, our staff are not only constantly monitoring the music with a decibel reader, but monitoring our animals behavior as well.

Our animals are always free to go to their dens behind-the-scenes, and we might block off sections of the zoo depending on an animal's behavior. While we know not always seeing every single animal can be disappointing, our priority will always be the health and safety of the animals.

But know that when you attend our events, we are not compromising the care of our animals. Thank you for supporting your zoo! ❤️
