Meet the staff Friday 💁‍♀️

💗 Meet Jacquelynn! 💗

If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jacquelynn, you know she is truly one of a kind! She is sweet, compassionate, always on the move, and incredibly dedicated to everything she does. She has a natural ability to connect with both people and pets, and once she cares about you, she loves wholeheartedly. 🐾❤️

Jacquelynn grew up in the Syracuse area and has always enjoyed spending time with her pets, family, and friends. After graduating from Wawasee High School, she continued her education at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, studying hospitality.

After briefly working outside of veterinary medicine, Jacquelynn quickly realized her heart was in this field. She loves the daily connections with clients and their pets and the opportunity to continue learning and growing. We’re so lucky to have her as part of our clinic family! 💕🐾

❤️ Saying goodbye to our sweet Queenie… for now. 🐾
Queenie is a beautiful Bichon Frisé who has been bravely living with cutaneous lymphangiosarcoma, a rare and serious cancer involving the lymphatic vessels of the skin. Her treatment includes chemotherapy pills, while ketamine is used as part of her pain-management plan to help keep her comfortable. Cancer treatment in dogs is often focused not only on treating the disease, but also on maintaining comfort and quality of life. ❤️
We’ve had the privilege of seeing Queenie twice a week but now her wonderful owners are heading to Florida, so for the time being, we have to say goodbye. 🥺
Queenie has left paw prints on all of ours.
We hope you have the happiest Florida adventures, sweet Queenie. ❤️

🍄 Fall means mushroom season! 🍄

With cooler temperatures and wet weather, mushrooms can start popping up all over our yards, parks, and walking trails — sometimes seemingly overnight!

The problem? It can be very difficult to tell a safe mushroom from a toxic one just by looking at it. Some species can cause severe illness, liver or kidney damage, seizures, and even death.

🐾 If your pet likes to sniff, explore, or snack on things they find outside, keep an extra eye out for mushrooms this time of year!

If you think your pet has eaten a wild mushroom, contact your veterinarian right away — don't wait for symptoms to appear. If possible, take a photo or sample of the mushroom for identification.

🍄 When in doubt, keep those curious noses away! 🐾

👩‍⚕️🩺Meet Dr. Couture!🦴🐾

A Warsaw native, Dr couture earned her Animal Science degree and DVM from Purdue, graduating from veterinary school in 2011. She joined Animal Hospital of Syracuse in 2017 after gaining experience with everything from horses and cattle to sheep, cats and dogs.

She has a special passion for orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, diabetes management, and client education-and she definitely isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty 💁‍♀️

Dr. Couture brings more than surgical skills to the clinic. With her great sense of humor, she keeps everyone laughing, and you never know when she might suddenly break into song and turn the clinic into her personal concert stage🎤🎶

Outside of work she enjoys life on her family farm with her husband, two children, horses, cats, and dog. She likes to travel, and take lake days, and serve in her church 🩵🐴⛪️

We love having our very own skilled surgeon and resident entertainer!🎶🐾🦴

🐾 What’s changed since your pet’s exam last year?

A lot can change in a year — and sometimes the changes happen so gradually that we don’t even realize they’re happening.

During your pet’s annual exam, we’re looking for changes such as:

⚖️ Weight or body condition
❤️ Heart and lung sounds
🔍 New lumps, bumps, or skin changes
💉 Vaccine and prevention needs
🥣 Changes in eating or drinking habits

Those changes in eating and drinking can be especially easy to overlook. If your pet has gradually started drinking more water or eating differently, you may not notice because it happens little by little. Eventually, it can just become their “new normal.”

That’s why a thorough history and physical exam are so important. Comparing what we find today with what was normal for your pet last year can help us catch subtle changes and determine whether they need a closer look.

When was your pet’s last wellness exam?

🐝Granger 🐾
This handsome guy came in with an aural (ear) hematoma — a pocket of blood that forms between the layers of the ear flap, usually after repeated head shaking or scratching. 🩸

So, what causes all that shaking? Often, there’s an underlying ear problem such as ear infections, allergies, yeast, mites, or irritation. The constant shaking and scratching can rupture tiny blood vessels in the ear, allowing blood to collect inside the ear flap.

Treatment depends on the individual patient and the size/severity of the hematoma. In many cases, we drain the accumulated blood and use techniques to prevent it from filling back up, while also treating the underlying cause of the ear irritation. 🩺

And the best part of this story? ❤️
This pup’s owner got creative and made him a cover for his no ear flap wrap 💁‍♀️ So CUTE!!

🐾MEET THE TEAM FRIDAY!💕
💁‍♀️Paige 🐾🩵
Paige is a very valued Veterinary Assistant who joined our practice in 2023. She holds an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology, bringing both technical knowledge and a compassionate approach to every patient she cares for.
BUT… anyone who knows Paige knows she brings much more than Veterinary skills to the team!💕 Paige is knows for her funny personality, special nicknames/stims, and ability to keep everyone laughing, even on the busiest days. She is always willing to jump in, take initiative, and find ways to help both our team and our patients. Whether she is organizing, problem solving, or simply noticing what needs to be done and getting it done, she is someone we can all count on.
Her love for animals extends beyond the clinic. At home she enjoys bathing her dog Briggs after he has played outside, and cuddling with her cats Dax, Bruce, and the newest member Minnow🫶🏽 Paige also has chickens that lay lots of eggs for us to eat at the clinic 😏🐣🤭
We’re so lucky to have Paige on our team! Her big heart, great sense of humor, and take charge attitude make her an invaluable part of our practice 💕
