You win some, you lose some. But it seems this year has been a lose, lose on a major scale for us. First, the drought. Then, hail storms took out all of our early blooms. Followed by vicious windstorms, which knocked out blooms. As if that wasn’t enough, anything that survived was killed by the late freeze of 21° for hours. We tried our best to cover everything, but to no avail. But we still held out hope for some late bloomers. As we pulled up some bulbs, we noticed they were munched on by critters. And they tunneled through the the tulip bed. 😭 4,000 bulbs along with 1,000 ranunculus corms planted in the winter down the drain—along with all the $$ invested in them. These were higher end, uncommon tulips and ranunculus that cost a pretty penny.
All that to say we have no flowers to sell for Easter. Not only is it disappointing and frustrating, but it’s setting us back financially as we start off the season. It’s not just our spring flowers, but the freeze took out most of our blueberries, veggies, pears! But we’re forging ahead because we don’t have time to cry. We trust that God will provide so we’re focusing our energy on summer flowers. Good news is our dahlias are waking up from their slumber and we will have lots to offer this year!
