UPDATE:
In less than an hour after receiving the call from Animal Control Officer Roger, these precious puppies were safely placed in a foster home.

We cannot thank everyone who reached out enough. This is why BAAB exists. This is why community matters. This is what we fight for every single day — to stand in the gap for the innocent, the abandoned, and the voiceless when they need us most. This is the Sweeny we know and love, and this is what it looks like when a community comes together.

These babies cannot be more than 10 days old. Their eyes are barely open. They should still be with their mother, safe, warm, and protected — not dumped and left helpless.

What was done to these puppies was cruel, heartless, and unacceptable. There is no excuse for abandoning innocent lives like this. We may never understand how someone could do such a thing, but we do know this: we will keep showing up, we will keep helping, and we will keep fighting for them.

A very special thank you to Roger, our Animal Control Officer, for picking these babies up and calling BAAB immediately. We are always proud to help!

‼️Urgent: Fosters Needed Now‼️
These 5 puppies were found dumped today by the Sweeny Animal Control Officer. They are extremely young and very hungry.

He has gotten bottles and formula and is feeding them now, but we desperately need foster homes immediately.

If you can foster and bottle-feed a puppy, BAAB will provide all supplies at no cost.

This is Lacey.
And this is why BAAB exists.

Lacey was brought to the veterinary clinic from the city shelter with a badly cut paw. What most people didn’t know is that an artery had been severed. She was bleeding internally. She was in pain. And because the City had no funds available… she was about to be euthanized.

Not because she was dying.
Not because she was dangerous.
Not because she wasn’t adoptable.

But because there was no money.

Reagan — BAAB’s Board Secretary and a veterinary professional — refused to let that happen. She immediately called me. The moment I understood the severity of Lacey’s injury, I authorized emergency surgery. No hesitation. No debate.

Because a life is a life.

Lacey went into surgery.
Lacey survived.
Lacey is alive today.

She is now fully vaccinated, has started heartworm prevention, and before adoption she will be spayed and microchipped. But more than that… she is the sweetest, most gentle, cuddly girl who just wants to be loved.

Imagine if BAAB didn’t exist.

This beautiful soul would have lost her life — simply because there was no money to save her.

This is what we do. This is our mission.

As winter weather approaches, the safety and wellbeing of our dogs has been heavy on our hearts. With the new shelter still only about 80% complete — after a long, hard-fought journey — we knew we could not take chances with these animals’ lives.

On Tuesday, I addressed City Council and raised serious concerns about the coming freeze. I offered a solution — and I am grateful that Mayor Dusty Hopkins and the City Council listened. Mayor Hopkins remained in constant communication with me and showed genuine concern for the animals, and together with city staff they acted quickly.

This morning, all dogs were safely transported to Sweeny High School, where the Vet Tech program has climate-controlled kennels. Thanks to this partnership, the dogs will be warm, safe, and comfortable throughout the severe weather.

I want to extend a sincere thank-you to Mayor Dusty Hopkins, the members of City Council, and the city employees who made this happen. When leadership listens and acts, lives are saved.

Every dog currently in our care is available for FREE adoption and comes fully vaccinated, heartworm tested, on heartworm prevention, microchipped, and spayed or neutered — ready for a loving home.

This is our purpose.
This is our mission.
We are the voice for the animals.

❄️ Cold Weather Alert from Benji’s Animal Adoption Barn (BAAB) ❄️

As freezing temperatures move into our area, we want to remind all pet parents and neighbors – please protect the animals in your care and in your community.

🐶 If you wouldn’t want to stay outside in the cold, your pet doesn’t either. Pets can suffer from hypothermia, frostbite, and life-threatening conditions when left outside without proper protection.
🐾 Bring your pets indoors during freezes whenever possible — especially at night and when temperatures drop below freezing.
🐾 If an animal must be outdoors, ensure they have adequate, insulated shelter, fresh unfrozen water, and extra food to help maintain body heat.

📌 Important Legal Reminder:
Under Texas law, it is unlawful to leave a pet outside in extreme weather without adequate food, water, shelter, and care — and leaving an animal in freezing conditions without proper protection can violate state animal welfare statutes. Texans can face criminal charges for animal cruelty or unlawful restraint during extreme cold.
