As crazy as it sounds, I love the mayhem of mothering three wild kids whilst running this business. Did one of them ride Dusty to the trailer, then load that golden pony on his own? Yes. Did we pickup the preschooler from school with the horses loaded in the trailer? Also yes. Did they learn all the details and anatomy of sheath cleaning? Yep. 😳 It’s weird and tiring and wild but my goodness do I love bringing them alongside me as we do what it takes to run this business.

Public school, private school, homeschool, even a mature preschooler loved first quarter horse class! As requested, here is the link for next quarter’s class. Classes start the week of October 12th. If you don’t see availability that works for your family, please reach out! I added a class outside of my typical class time to accommodate several families last quarter. If classes fill up again, I will add additional dates.

When your horse class teacher has degrees in animal science, equine business management, and equestrian studies, you get some detailed information when it comes to gastrointestinal tracts, nutrition, and equine husbandry. 😆 The old text books and tape measure were busted out this week!

My ten students this quarter range from 4-15 years old, so tailoring the content to keep it interesting and palatable is crucial. Cheers to another fun week of learning (and riding!)

We’re in week 3 of 5 for horse classes and having a blast! I’m teaching another five weeks starting the week of October 12. Let me know if you’d like in on the fun!

We could squeeze one final Horse class in for the summer and have been having a blast getting to know how horses communicate with us, safety, grooming, and riding.

My next sessions begin in September. Sessions go for five weeks. My intermediate class is full, but I have opened one more class to accommodate the beginners interested in signing up this Quarter. I have had parents reach out to me for information on starting age and class times; I have often been able to meet the parents in the middle and accommodate their kiddo so don’t hesitate with questions. 😁

We have two spots remaining for Horse class starting this week. There will be a total of four classes for the remaining weeks of August. In past classes students have enjoyed learning breeds, saddle parts, leading from the ground, writing, horse safety, various disciplines, anatomy, nutrition, and so much more! Reach out to me ASAP if you would like added to this class. I can add you next week for a reduced fee as well if this is too short of notice. 🙂 regular classes will start in November, post to follow.

Beating the heat with a geriatric PPID (Cushings) horse can be extra. Dusty lacks the ability to sweat currently, so ensuring he doesn’t overheat is our top priority. And making sure Charm doesn’t get into too much of a lathered mess from all these biting gnats is priority number two. Clipping Dusty’s coat in high vascular areas allows the cooler air to reach his veins, allowing the cooler blood to lower the temperature of his internal organs. Keeping his coat on part of his body, face and ears, and legs provides some protection from these biting insects .The cold hose water does the same to cool him down as does evaporation under the fans after being hosed off. Also on the menu: Guinness b**r which should cause his body to sweat. He’s worth the hassle. Love you Trusty Dusty!

We’re happy to support our absolute favorite coffee supplier, Special Grounds Coffee in Wauseon! Great coffee and an even better mission. When a client asks to haul their hogs for fair tagging, I’m happy to stop by for a quick latte and few bags of our favorite brew on my way past. Make sure to check them out!

Me: “Sorry, no sprinkler this morning; your mom will be back home soon and we don’t need you all muddy!”

Golden: “Cool cool cool cool cool no doubt no doubt no doubt but first hang on I have an idea.”

Littles: “YAYYYY! Me too!”

All of this took place when the owner was 5 minutes from her house. Of course.

Two of the kids and I made a gruesome discovery while taking a walk during the third’s physical therapy appointment. With a lot of juggling and some help from local nurses, we were able to rescue the six babies and deliver them to Nature’s Nursery the following morning.

Did you know opossum’s momma’s ni***es elongate so that the ni**le and thus milk go directly into the baby’s stomach? That would explain why it was so challenging to unlatch these little guys. And the joeys ride in the jill’s pouch for months as they continue to grow. This is why keeping them warm (85-90 degrees) was most important while we awaited our drop off appointment. A sock of warm rice and heating paid under half the box did the trick well. Nature’s Nursery was incredibly helpful and informative!
